Chiropractor while pregnant?

Do any of you ladies go to the chiropractor while pregnant? I have been going to the chiropractor for several years a couple of times a month. According to my chiropractor, it's perfectly safe for pregnant women to get adjusted and even helps with back pain. However, my DH think it is a bad idea and that it might "hurt" the baby and said he doesn't want me to go anymore. Thoughts?

Re: Chiropractor while pregnant?

  • I haven't been, but many people have told me to go, even for just a massage, to help deal with my backpain and sciatic nerve. There are chiropractors and masseuses that specialize in pregnancy, if you can find them.

Just be sure to tell whoever is doing the adjusting knows you're pregnant, if they can't tell by looking at you yet! =]

  • My Dr told me the best time to come get aligned is when pregnant. It is a little different but I have  no worries about going. OB agrees if I usually go monthly or bi monthly not to stop.

I went last night and I slept so well for the first time all month!

  • I go to the chiro every 2 weeks - it is safe.  Let him/her know that you're pregnant and they will alter the methods they use to adjust you.  If you or your DH is nervous about it ask your Dr.

  • My chiro and my OB both say its safe to go while pregnant.

I havent gone since my BFP.... but I would if I started getting migraines again.

  • I don't get adjusted.... I go for the massages!!! My back was really bad and going has really helped!!!

  • I went with my second pregnancy when she was laying transverse at 36 weeks - totally put her head down.  Now, I have been going since my BFP - highly recommend it!  Just make sure they know you are pregnant - and that they know the Webster method.

  • Thanks so much for responding everyone!  Big Smile It being safe seems to be the consensus so I don't see any harm in my continuing with my routine appointments.

  • I have been going to the chiro since I was 7 years old b/c of gymnastics and I recently just went again and I'm 25 weeks pregnant. They adjust the table for you to lie comfortably on. It's perfectly safe to do while pregnant and also recommended.

  • I actually have an appointment set up for next Tuesday.  I'm totally looking forward to it.  I'm hoping it will realign my hips and back.  I mentioned the chiropractor to my midwife at my appointment yesterday and she was all for it.  She said it can be a tremendous help in making pregnant women more comfortable.  Stick with it!
  • I see one that specializes in pregnancy chiropractic. She is great. She has helped me so much with siatic pain. I was also having problems with my left leg going numb when I would sit or lay down and she fixed that. I know that she helps woman who's baby's are breech and helps get them turned the right way. I didn't see her with my first pregnancy and wish I had known about her then. I've noticed a great difference with this pregnancy now that I am seeing her.
