If you are hiring a Doula, how much are you paying (if you don't mind sharing that info)? I'm thinking about it, but would like an estimate to see if it will be totally out of our price range from the get go. Thanks!

Re: Doulas - How much?
They are different in different parts of the country. I would email DONA to get a list of the Doulas in your area. You can also save money by using a Doula who has gone through the training but hasn't been certified. DONA suggested that I do not discount them based on the not being certified when I was looking. Obviously you will meet your potential doula and check out her experience before hiring her.
We opted not to use a doula. I wasn't up for the fight with my husband over it. I really wish I had fought harder. I have a feeling my entire first labor would have been different.
Ours is free because she is not certified yet. We will be one of the births she needs to attend for certification
In our area they run anywhere from about $250-$600. It generally includes 1-2 prenatal visits, email communication back and forth as questions come up (they help make your birth plan which may also evolve over email), attendance for the birth and a postnatal visit
