WDYT? Ive had two comments ALREADY!

So Dh and I have been having a hard time deciding between the name Jack and Jackson. Since last night, we have told a couple people the names and both people said, oh Jackson after Michael Jackson.....yea. So anyway, do you think that more people will associate that name with Michael more so now? If yes, do you think it will die down? Nothing against Michael Jackson, I just dont really want that association with my sons name. What do you guys think? DH brought it up this morning so I thought Id ask.

  • It would never have occured to me, but I'm not a fan of his.  I think it will probably die down.  It's not like your son's birthday is around Michael's death or anything so it should be better by October.

PS.  I really like the name!!  It was on our list too, but spelled Jaxson. Wink

ETA:  Sorry, November.  I need to pay more attention to people's siggies before I type.

  • If we find out we are having a boy, we are using the name Jackson.  Obviously not because of Michael Jackson.

We love southern names and our DD's name is Savannah, so we wanted to carry that on.  Jackson = Jackson, Mississippi

If we have a girl, her name will be Charlotte, for Charlotte, NC.

  • I wouldn't really expect an increase in association. My first name is Whitney and I get the occassional, "like Whitney Houston" but it is very rare and happened more in the  80's. Jackson is a really popular name right now and I don't think people are going to assume people are rushing to name their kid that after Michael. BTW - I love the name Jack but it was used by a cousin in our family recently so we went with something else.

I wouldn't have associated it with Micheal Jackson.  My brother's name is Jack Daniel, now that gets associated with a certain item/person for sure lol.  I wouldn't suggest that combination lol

Jackson is a great name.  From what I've seen, he'll probably be nicknamed Jack by his friends anyway.

  • I absolutely LOVE both Jack and Jackson!

Just like pp have said: I wouldn't think that anyone would associate Jackson with Michael Jackson after a while...it'll all calm down before too long.

  • I think its just because he passed away yesterday.  I would never have thought that.

ETA: I prefer Jackson.  He could always shorten to Jack later.

  • I like Jackson and would never have thought of Michael Jackson unless someone else were to bring it up.

Go with what you like and don't worry what others say.... there will always be rude comments to be made.

  • I think this whole MJ thing will die down soon (hopefully).  Sorry Michael!

  • I just wanted to say I LOVE the name Jack.

My pick was Jack Henry, but DH wouldn't go for it.  At least he agreed to Henry though!

  • Don't worry what other people are going to think.  Pick a name that you and your hubby like.  I love how people always have comments, ugh!! I personally don't think of Michael Jackson when you say Jackson.  I say go for it!  GL

::listening to MJ now on the work radio::  lol

  • I would never associate the name Jackson with Michael Jackson. I love that name. It was on our list of boy names, but that was put aside since we are having a girl.  :)

  • Before yesterday, I wouldn't have though of MJ when I heard that name.

I agree that Jackson a great name and his friends/family can also call him Jack if they like that better!

  • I think it will die down, especially by the time your baby is born.

People will always have some sort of an association with a name.  I love the name Jackson, but we can't use it because that is the name our our in-laws dog!  :)

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!  It is our pick for a boy!

  • I would definitely not worry about this. It will die down in a week or so, and I would highly doubt people would associate it. It's kind of annoying that people even said anything to you already - I'm honestly not sure many people would name their kid after Michael Jackson.

I like both names a lot, and we would have considered them, but one of our best friends (who is 6 weeks ahead of me) is definitely going with Jackson.
