I went in on my lunch to pick up some shorts and I normally say I'm just browsing when I go in there because I hate how they hassle me and give me a million things to try on that I don't need. Well, I made the mistake of telling the guy working there that I was looking for shorts when he asked me, so he starts going around pulling two pairs of every short they freaking carry in the store (except the ones that were on sale - go figure). I literally could not stop him. I kept saying, no I'm only looking for one pair of denim shorts, I don't want bermudas, etc. and he kept saying "well just try them, you never know!"
So I somehow ended up in a fitting room with like 20 items of clothing, including 6 or 7 tops even though I specifically told him I was not looking for any tops. I was so annoyed that I only tried on one pair of shorts and left the fitting room because I was not going to pay $35 for shorts when there were other pairs on sale for $20. Then another sales person tried to latch onto me by telling me I "needed" to try some tank tops because it's getting so hot out and I'd be sorry if I didn't. I hate how overbearing the sales people are at that store!!!

Trying again..
That definitely happened to me when I went and I haven't been back.
One time at a coach outlet, a sales woman would not leave me alone! DH was so nice, and he told her he wanted to ask her about some other bag, and wasted her time til I found the bag I wanted lol!
How annoying. Thanks for the heads up I haven't been there yet. Call me sexist, but why is man working in a maternity store? That seems as bad as a man working at Victorias Secret.
YES! I wasn't sure why, but it made me feel really uncomfortable. He kept calling me honey and sweetie and he was YOUNGER THAN ME. After that, I went from uncomfortable to just pissed off.
Wow, I didn't have that problem at all at my Motherhood Mat. store. The two saleswomen were helpful when I needed their assistance, but not at all pushy. And their shorts prices were nowhere near $35! I think they were regularly $20 but they were on sale for $16.99 - cheaper than Target's shorts. But it was also an outlet store. Overall, though, I had a great experience there. Spent way too much money, but got some really cute mat. pieces that should carry me through the fall. I'd even wear a couple of them not pregnant. They just had some super cute styles.
I'm sorry you had such a bad experience.

That is the WORST thing about that store. I went in there to buy a bathing suit and they tried to MAKE me try on the fake belly that they have in the dressing room. And then proceeded to throw some bras in for me to try on. What the heck? They weren't even close to the size I wear either.
I have found that the MM outlets are not this way. They carry the same stuff just have more sales. You should try there if you have one close.
Good luck!
I'm so glad it's not just me. I won't go in there anymore because the salespeople are SO ANNOYING. Like painfully agitating. Give me a chance to just BROWSE for goodness sakes. Last time I was there one salesperson kept offering me water. Okay, nice gesture. But I am pregnant!! I already have enough problem with peeing every 15 minutes as is.
Are they commissioned? Whatever they're doing in the training, they need to stop. They're sales techniques rub me the wrong way.
The exact same thing happened to me a couple weeks ago when I went into Motherhood. I was just snooping around, minding my own business, when this one girl started hounding me. Mind you, I worked retail for 8 years, so I'm quite polite to even pushy people. She was beyond pushy. After I told her several times that I was just looking, she almost forced me to try on a t-shirt. After a bit more hassle, I told her, "Why don't you try it on?". She looked at me blankly, searching for the right words. She came up with something about her big bust. That shut her up. HA! I haven't been back since.
Exactly the reason why I shop online
They do try to sell you everything there!
This happened to me at 2 of the 3 different Motherhood stores I've been to. The first time I went in cause my pants just weren't fitting right and I wanted to see what they had. The saleswoman brought me 4 different types of pants, all in the wrong size. After 30 minutes I found a pair in my size that I picked out. The other 2 stores I didn't buy anything cause of the prices.
Last night I went to Ross looking for a comfy dress and found out they carried maternity clothes and in my size. I walked out with denim shorts and capris, both which fit, and both I found on my own in a matter of minutes oh and they were only $10 each. I shop fast when given the opportunity. I'll be heading back to ross first from now on.
