I had my 12 week ultrasound and my tech is 90% sure that it's a girl. Of course I can't go out and buy all pink but anyone else had their sex determined by 12 weeks and was right .. or wrong?
GL, I hope it's right. They guessed girl for me but I don't find out for sure until july 13th. I will let ya know. Some of ther other girls said theirs was predicted right.
At that point, if they see a tube that is parallel to their legs or 3 paralell lines (from different angles if you can iamgine what I mean) then it's probably a girl.
If they see a tube that is about 30-45 degree from paralell poking upwards or they see a half circle in that area then it's a boy....
It's not exact and the angles you need to be sure are tough to get at that stage but.... if they get the right angle and the right shot they can be pretty sure.
In our case they said "here are the legs, here's the umbillical cord, and here's something else". They even printed the picture of that shot with an arrow pointing to the "smething else" and she said it's probably a boy. We won't know for sure until later next month though.
WOW!!! THAT IS A GREEEEEEAT SITE! YOU'RE RIGHT IT DOES LOOK THE SAME!
yeah they do look the same. just watched a national geographic video on us and they show the same thing. its all about the angle. its just cool to see baby too!!

yeah my tech said it was pointing down so that's why she was 90% sure it's a girl. I'm going to go nuts buying those big flowers on the little girl's heads!
At our 12 week ultrasound the tech was pretty sure it was a girl (she didn't give us a %)
But it's a boy
OH? How exciting! Everyone told me I'm having a boy just by what they felt ... and I was so convinced that I must be having a boy so I was really surprised to learn that I might be having a girl. Ahhh...the waiting is killing me!
Yea, I wouldn't go buy anything yet. At this point the genitals are hard to distinguish even if you were to be holding the fetus in your hands. The genital region at 12w is referred to as the "indeterminant penis": i.e., it all looks the same.

We were told by the specialty doctor at our NT scan at 12 weeks that he is certain it's a boy due to the "angle of the dangle." I then asked my regular OB who said that with today's technology, this way of determining gender is highly accurate (close to 95% for 12-13 weeks is what she said). On July 6, I'll know for sure. Most people who I have talked to said it ended up being correct. That said, I'm not buying anything blue yet.
A word of caution - we told some people what was told to us and they laughed at us or were very rude with statements like "you can't tell that early - what are you talking about?" I would reply that I was simply repeating what a doctor had told me. Anyways, for me it was kind of frustrating, so we just decided to stop telling people when they asked. It seems like it's another one of those things that women who are more pregnant than you are know more about...

I think it has more to do with the different opinions of different doctors. Mine told me that at 12w the u/s gender determination accuracy is barely above 50% (and told me the "indeterminant penis" bit). I don't think that just because you're "more pregnant" your doctor knows more than others - early gender u/s determination is just not well accepted as accurate in the medical community.

Oh gosh, I'm sorry, you totally misinterpreted my response. I certainly didn't mean myself. I meant that a lot of people who are further along than me seem to love to tell me how I should be feeling / when something will happen / etc. I actually hate it, so I was in no way trying to do it to her.
I agree completely - it seems to depend based on the doctor. The clinic here seems to be fairly confident in their early predictions, but I understand that all are not, and that the science is early. Sorry about that...

^^I got thats what you meant? who didnt? obviously you wouldn't be doing that yourself then SAYING you were doing that lol. Fools

I was always told that at 12 wks its waay too soon to tell b/c those areas are still developing. I was told at 16 wks with DD that we couldnt find out yet. I would wait till your 20 wk u/s before you feel certain.
Same thing happened to me, and when I posted about it... Everyone told me that there is no way they could tell that early (( I am hoping to prove them wrong in the next couple of weeks!! Good Luck though!

Same for us, at 13 weeks we were told 95% girl, and the tech seemed pretty confident. We'll find out for sure in a few weeks.
I'm glad you said this because I got the same kind of reaction! (especially on the these boards!) People are weird...

I took an at-home urine test called "Intelligender," and it predicted that we are having a girl. ?I do believe the levels of hormones in the urine react with the compounds in the bottle to give you a reading of female/male. ?Of course, it's just "for fun!" ?We really want a girl, so it was really fun to have our hopes confirmed. ?The package explicitly states not to make any investments neither emotional, nor financial based upon the test results - and we haven't. ?I have also found that doctors will tell you the same thing, "do not make investments" because there is always a margin of error. ?If it makes you feel good to believe that there's a 90% chance it's a girl, ROCK ON! ?Who cares about rude people... this is supposed to be one of the happiest and memorable experiences of your life, you really want to remember the "rude people?" ?Forget about them! ?
?
JUST A THOUGHT:?
If you think about it, modern medicine has taken us on some crazy journeys through health, and yet we are content to leave sonography as archaic as it is? ?There has to be a better technology out there, and I'm not talking 3D ultrasounds, those are ridiculous, too. ?Along with AFP testing, that's pretty barbaric as well. ?I read in a couple places that the false positive readings for down syndrome are upwards of 80%. There needs to be some serious money dumped into reproductive research. Perhaps I should have stayed a bio-sci major with a concentration in genetics, instead of merely posing the questions, I could do the R&D and fix the issues.
Everyone I knew was so sure I was having a boy. Iwas being so convinced myself I was going to. At 16 wks they weren't 100% but looked like a boy.At my 20 wk ultrasound the technician kept referring to my baby as he. The baby was moving so much she was having a hard time getting a look, when did she was stunned a girl. On Wednesday I had another ultrasound and my husband asked them to check, yep, still a princess. I am so glad I didn't give into my excitement and buy all those adorable boy clothes, because I would have probably been disappointed at the fact I am having a girl.
I don't think the baby has decided where or not it's a girl or boy yet at this point. This is why they wait until 16-20 to get to find out the sex. Since then the baby will be fully developed.

This gives me proof to not get excited. Because everyone is telling me it's a boy (granted they're not doctors...) because my bump is pretty low. But I'm waiting for the ultrasound to tell me. Congratulations on the little baby girl

My tech told me girl at my 12 week ultrasound.. i have 2 boys already and just really feel like its another boy.. so I will find out aug 7th! the wait is killing me haha!
Re: It's a girl?!?! Maybe?!!
I wouldn't go out and buy pink. Both organs look so much alike that early on. Check this out.
