WDYT? Disneyland and pregnancy

Okay, so I googled this and there are millions of different responses. From lists of rides to avoid, to saying that all rides are fine, to saying all rides except Splash mountain are fine.

DH and I want to go on a Babymoon this summer, before the school year starts again and I go back to work. But there is a possibility that I might be pregnant while on the babymoon(wishful thinking I know). I haven't been to Disneyland since I was 10 yrs old, and I would really like to go before I go to Disneyland with my kids. I need one last time of me getting to decide where to go instead of my kids. What are your opinions on Disneyland during the first trimester?

Re: WDYT? Disneyland and pregnancy

  • Disneyland while pregnant = bad idea IMO.  I'd wait until you pop out a few kidlings and then go back.

  • Loading the player...
  • My OB said absolutely not to any rides during the 1st tri. That being said, I'd still plan the vacation since you never know what will happen in the future.
  • First, a "babymoon" is a vacation you take when you are pregnant as a last hoorah before baby is born.  So taking a vacation without being pregnant would not be a babymoon.  It would be called....a vacation.

Second, you cannot go on any rides while pregnant.  So if you are, you'd basically just be walking around looking at stuff.  If you wouldn't plan on going on any rides anyway, then it's fine to go while pregnant.  But if you want to go for the rides, your trip would be a bust if you were pregnant.

  • I think that you have to live your life, as you don't know the future.

That said...If that "one last time" is something you want to do without any worry - .then tta and do it.

It's only a couple of months.

  • Disneyland.com has ride restrictions on the rides... I'm a regular visitor, and you can not go on Big Thunder, Space and Splash Mountains, The Matterhorn, Indiana Jones and Star Tours ( I think that's it)

At California Adventure, you cannot ride the roller coaster, Tower of Terror, and a couple other rides, but I havemt been there since pregnanct, so I can't remember which are no nos.

Other rides could make you nauseous, like the Teacups, but are not recommended to avoid during pregnancy.

Southern California can be very hot in the summer, and Disneyland is an expensive place (foot, etc.) Also, there will be long lines, like, hour long lines, easy, because of tourist season. There are not a lot of places to sit in line, so you will be on your feet all day.

If you end up in a wheelchair (my friend did that when she was far along cause she couldn't walk all day) I don't know iif you could get a handicapped pass, that would take a phone call to answer.

Whoops. Sorry, I guess I just assumed it was a vacation that you go on before the baby is born.

Well, I guess Disneyland is out. It's definitely something I don't want to take chances on. The people that said no to Disneyland when I googled suggested just walking around and people watching. Meh. Not really what I like to do, I like to be doing things. I'm sure Disneyland will be awesome when I can take my kids, it will be fun watching them experience it for the first time.

So I guess I should plan some other kind of vacation. Are cruises okay? Like on the Disney cruise ship? Yes, I'm obsessed with Disney, how could you tell? lol. DH also suggested Busch Gardens. Hmm. Guess it's back to the drawing board.

  • I awnted to add, there's nothing wrong with going to Disneyland without your baby or kids- just keep it quiet until you come back, lol.

Absolutely no cruises. During pregnancy you should be confined in a crate. Like veal.

  • Disney while pregnant sounds like a miserable experience. If you have morning sickness, it will blow. You'll be exhausted before you even walk half the park just from being pregnant. A lot of rides aren't really safe for pregnant women (though which at DisneyLand I don't know, I'm used to World.) If you go during the summer you will be dealing with not only insane crowds, but also insane heat. All that plus incubating spawn doesn't equal a good time to me.?

  • I will be 25 weeks when we go to Disney World in August.  Both my doc and the park "specialist" I talked to at Disney said that as a general rule, that far along, any ride except the "coaster rides" (splash mtn, big thunder mtn railroad, space mtn, etc) are fine.

I would take into consideration time of year and how you will be feeling.  The heat in August is going to kick my butt, but its cool, I love the insane heat.

I say if you plan it well enough with your timing of your pregnancy-by all means...GO!  Have fun!
