2nd Trimester

XP- Finding a new OB, need some advice.

The OB I am seeing now, whom I really do love, doesn't work with the hospital that I want to deliver at. After the hospital tours I really want to deliver at this other hospital, no question about it.

So I got a few recommendations from the H. I made an appt at one office. I asked if they do an u/s or something since it's my very first visit, She said she doesn't know. Okay fine, not a big deal if they don't.

Then I asked her when the DR will start seeing me every 2 weeks. She said 36 weeks!! I said "Every TWO weeks at 36 weeks?", she said yes, they at 38 weeks she will see me once a week. Uh, okay, I thought that was REALLY weird. I thought that was pretty late to start seeing me more frequently.

And here is what bothered me the most. She said that my first appt I see a nurse practiciner (sp!?), then my next appt (29 weeks!) I will see a DR. Now they rotate 5 doctors so I'm assuming I might not even meet my offical dr by the time I give birth.

Is this normal? Should I just call the next person on my list??

  • I would keep looking.  My Dr. sees me at every 4 week visit.  I don't think I'd want it any other way.

  • Are you sure that the hospital choice is more important than the Dr choice??

I'm not flaming, so I hope you don't take that the wrong way. ?I'm not sure what I would do if I loved the Dr but didn't love the hospital.

I have to switch OBs, but only b/c mine is moving to Texas, but I will still deliver at the same hospital. ?

If you're sure the hospital is more important, then I would possibly call the next on your list. ?I wouldn't like not meeting the Dr who is delivering until you deliver, that would be weird, IMO. ?

  • You obviously seem unsure already. I would keep looking. Why waste your time at this point?

I switched docs at 10 weeks. Thank goodness. I actually have one doctor and I see him every time. I actually got a referral for him because I went to the ER (after having a bad drs visit with the old one). I always see him and he calls me to let me know what is going on. he is very nice and supportive.

Who is going to deliver the baby? Whoever is on call, but I have heard great things about all the docs on call, so I'm not worried! I'm sure he will check in with me as well.

    Good luck!

Yeah, I thought about it a lot. The H I want to deliver at has a wonderful NICU (just in case), they ecourage bonding immediately after birth. Right after birth they leave the baby with you for an hour to bond/BF. They clean the baby and do their tests right in the room with you while they are cleaning/stiching you up. They have lactetion cons there more than the other H. And the old H was a teaching H, and this one isn't, I'm more comfortable with a non teaching H esp when I'm having my first baby. Over all it's a more comfortable/home-y H.

    Thanks
