Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Help please, is this low blood sugar, high blood sugar or what?

Sometimes I get really shaky.  It is usually accompanied by feeling kind of spacy and hot flashes.  I'm feeling this way right now and man, typing is hard!

Usually I'll eat a few crackers or a slice of cheese or something and it goes away.  This doesn't happen often, maybe once every few months.

I have PCOS so I know that my insulin levels are very high but I also know my glucose level is generally normal.

I'm not too concerned about this since it doesn't happen too often and I always forget to mention it to my docs when I see them.

Does anyone have an idea wtf this is?  I'm sure that with the way my hands are shaking I look like my MIL before she has her first drink of the day....

I'd call your dr. I'm sure it is blood sugar related.

  • Sounds like low blood sugar. I also have PCOS and am insulin resistant, but I get spells where I get shaky, hot, etc. Eating protein will help stabilize you.

  • Sounds like low blood sugar. When this happens to me my hands & arms feel like rubber & feel lightheaded. Keep some candies on you at all times. Like Skittles or hard candies. Even orange juice. Chocolate takes too long to metabalize. You need the sugar fast to get it back up so you feel ok.

I also suggest telling your doctor about this. There might something else wrong that needs to be addressed.

  • Sounds like low blood sugar.  I have the same issue and it was worse when I was pregnant.
  • LOL at MIL before her first drink of the day.
  • thanks all!  I ate a peanut nut roll (sugar and protein...and yum!) and some raisins.  It is starting to get a little better.
  • this started happening to me almost daily when i returned to work after having DS - about 3 months PP.  i did end up going to the doctor and they did blood work, which came back normal.  diagnosed me with hypoglycemia.  basically now, i am just really careful not to eat something that is just carbs in the morning.  i make sure i have a protienacious snack early.  and i try to eat every few hours and not go too long with nothing in my stomach.  it's scary when you "crash" though, at least for me, i felt like i was going to pass out.  good luck!
