Honestly, I know that cribs and furniture are not cheap but some of the prices I have seen lately seem crazy! How much have you spent / plan to spend on your crib and coordinating furniture? There is a clicky poll so that this can be done w / out flames and people getting crazy mad over a money post. I am just genuinely curious to see how much (on average) people put down on baby furniture. TIA!

Re: Furniture sticker shock....(clicky poll inside)
I think it all depends on what you get.
We bought our Graco Lauren crib and changing table for under $250. Our glider was about $700, but we had a $100 off coupon and DH's parents gave us $550 to put towards it. So in all we spent like $300. Instead of a dresser, we are just using those clear rubbermaid drawers in the closet.
This is exactly what we are getting! We didn't get the changing table though, bought a regular dresser from a consignment shop to double as the changing table. That part only cost $50!!
DH and I went this weekend to look at furniture for the first time, and sticker shock was an understatement (esp to him - I at least had done some research and read up from you ladies!)
We will probably spend a total of $750-1000 on the entire nursery... Hoping to get a crib for around $400, plus conversion kit at $150, mattress at $100... we have a dresser, but will need a small changing table & pad, and a rocker/glider. So it'll likely be on the higher end of the scale depending on what bargains I can find!
We bought our stuff on sale...it would have retailed for about $1700, but we bought the crib, conversion rails, dresser, & mattress for roughly $1100.
We bought our glider from a friend for $150, when it retails new for roughly $400.
I am anticipating make 3 major furniture purchases. The crib, mattress, dresser, and rocking chair. I anticipate this will cost about $800. But I know we will be spending a lot more on other baby stuff like stroller, car seat, etc.
We got our glider for free, and my Mom wants to buy our crib. Other than that, we are using my Great-Aunt's sideboard that I inherited as a dresser/changing table (just need to get the changing pad). Since our house is really small, we have to put the crib in our bedroom, so we are waiting until we can sell this place to buy real furniture for the baby. That might be a year or more, though. So we're just making do for now. I might get a small dresser to put in the little room where the sideboard is (it was originally a 2nd bedroom, but the previous owner re-did the attic and put a staircase in it).
I wish we were living in a bigger house, but it is what it is right now until this economy turns around.
We got our crib (non-convertible) for 250, it was originally 500, but on clearance because the model is discontinued. I got an antique dry sink at an auction that we're going to use as a changing table for 130, and my mom is refinishing it for free. We're getting my husband's old baby dresser from his parents so that'll just be the cost of paint to update it.
We're still not sure if we're going to have room for a rocker, but if we do, we're getting one from the Amish, they run around 100-150. Overall, I think we've managed to do well price wise.
WE may or may not be spending the actual money. Our Crib is 300, dresser/changer is 400 something and my glider is 300. That's the majority of the actual furniture. Maybe a book shelf?
But my mom already bought my glider and we'll see about the crib, etc plus i will wait until i have a coupon, etc.
We ordered our furniture over the weekend. I was planning on spending around $2k, but it ended up being $2700. However this was for the lifetime crib, all the conversion rails, mattress, nightstand, 6-drawer dresser, hutch and 5-drawer dresser. I should never have to buy furniture for him ever again. It's a pretty reputable brand and everything seemed very solid so hopefully it can take a beating. It also came with a 10 year warranty.
