Abby is scheduled to have the spinal drain removed at 10 a.m. We
are hoping to go home tomorrow but there is a lot that is dependent
on. The docs have to make sure that the incision isn't leaking,
pharmacy has to decide the correct dosage of her antibiotics that we
will have to administer via her PICC line at home, she still hasn't
walked in over 9 days so PT will have to come in as well. At least we
are getting somewhere today though, the past 5 days or so have been
groundhog day for us.
If this doesn't work and it leaks
again, we have two options, neither of which are what we want (plastic
surgery reconstructing her hip muscles to fill in the spaces where they
took the fat away from her back or putting a shunt in her head to help
the fluid drain).
Thanks again for all of your thoughts,
prayers, and encouraging words. I never knew so many people that do
not know us could care so much!

Re: Mon. Morning Abby Update

It sounds like she's headed in the right direction, albeit slowly.
Do you know if the shunt would be permanent, or temporary? Would it drain to her throat or her tummy? I know this really doesn't help, but I personally know two people who have had those types of shunts and did extremely well with them. My dad was one of those people -- his shunt literally changed his life (for the better).
