I have never encountered this and don't really think I ever will but I think I would just say that I have the right to feed my child there (assuming I did, some states in the US I *think* might still have anti-bf laws) and if they would like to they can call the police and make sure.
When my daughter was a babe, I got lots of looks everywhere we went. I just made sure I knew the laws for my state - which are that I have 100% every right to nurse my child when and where I want to, until the age of 1 year.
Sorry - I didn't mean to post and run, but the wee man woke up.
I'm somewhere between B and C. I definitely wouldn't stop, and depending on where I was, I'd make a point of it. I'm a really modest person when it comes to exposing myself but I am vehemently pro-NIP, and do whenever I need to. (I just try to ignore the amount of nipple exposure I've probably had ove rhte past year...)
I'm so glad that BF is relatively acceptable in the UK. That said, I've been getting more 'looks' now that DS is nearly a year. The woman on the other board was in the UK, where it's illegal to ask her to stop (at her baby's age at least), but they did and she did. I just get so annoyed by that, both that they asked and that she stopped - I felt sure I'm not the only one who would refuse to stop.
I'm not the type of person to make a fuss about something publicly, BUT if someone were to say something to me about nursing (or anything else that I believe in and hold dear) you better believe I'll be standing my ground.
That said, I've never had a problem. I have nursed in a fitting room before, but that was at Walmart, and if you'd ever seen the locals here, you'd know why
Someone in the UK was asked to stop and did? That amazes me with the amount of publicity they've been doing about breastfeeding awareness recently. The laws are up to 1 year there aren't they? I always wondered what I would do if I was asked to stop now that DS is over 1 year but so far no one has cared. I don't really understand the difference between bfing a 11 month old and a 15 month old. I mean if he was 5 and nursing in public I can understand why some people might not be comfortable, but he's still baby if he's under 2 in my mind...
I'm actually not clear on the law re: ages/and BF in the UK. I'm trying to google it. I just assumed I had every right, and this is such a sad eye-opener for me. I do know that most of hte mothers in my playgroups won't, even if in a very baby-friendly place. I will nurse W in public as and when required until we stop nursing. Period. And I'm really not one to make a fuss in public either, but apparently becoming a mother has raised my attena!
welshgirl - I'm pretty sure they upped it from 6 months to 1 year while I was still living there but maybe that was just england and they have different age requirements in wales/scotland/n. ireland. That wouldn't surprise me really...
I would try to be polite about it (depending on how the request was made of course), but definitely C! If he's hungry I will feed my child and have many times.
I was asked to stop once when Tristan was a few weeks old at a restaurant. I made a big stink and said I assumed you could eat at a restaurant. I kept feeding.

That is MD law too.
According to LLL's website:
"Md. Code ?20-801.
S.B. 223, Chap. 369
Signed by Governor, 5/22/03
(a) A mother may breast-feed her child in any public or private location in which
the mother and child are authorized to be.
(b) A person may not restrict or limit the right of a mother to breast-feed her child."
I will never let anyone else dictate my right to feed my child when I need to. I don't care how old they are. I was told I had to go to the bathroom while I was at the Natural History Museum in DC, but I had researched their laws and knew that I didn't have to. So I didn't.
I don't care if people give me weird looks when I'm 8 months pregnant and still nursing Mady, it is within my right to nurse her if she wants.

I love you! There was a 3 year old nursing on our flight back from LA, people made comments. I got all upset and defended the Mom. She was going to stop. Then she tried explaining that she only comfort nursed and blah blah blah. Its her choice to do it as LONG as she wants. I told her not to feel bad.
I definitely wouldn't stop, but it is legal in my state (although I think this is recent). This made me remember the first time I breastfed DS in public. We were at Panera with DH and DH asked straight out as I was about to if it was legal and was hesitant. I told him flat out that it was and proceeded with our business. I'm always discreet about it in public because I'm fairly modest myself but it really irks me that people actually ask women to stop.
I said "refuse", plus I intend to carry a copy of NY state law regarding BFing in public to shove in their obnoxious faces.
This... even though typically I'm not usually a "in your face! Booyah!" person. They gave us a card with the SC state law on it in my breastfeeding class and it's already in my wallet (cause I'm a huge nerd like that).
However, I'll probably use discretion about where I BF. I'm a pretty modest person and won't whip it out and start feeding in a crowded place. I plan on using a Moby wrap and BF using that- I think it's pretty discrete.

I answered that I would refuse, but I would also remind them that TX law allows me to nurse my child in public anywhere that I personally am allowed to be. Depending on their reaction to that and exactly what they said in the first place, I might go home and round of my mama troop for a nurse in.
I heard a great line somewhere and I've been waiting forever to use it. But alas...no one has ever asked me to stop.
But the reply is: If me using my mammary glands as nature intended is bothering you then you might want to get some help for that or at least take a bilogy class.

Sigh. You would think people would rather a child be comforted rather than screaming because of the cabin pressure change. Idiots.

We had an incident like that in town this winter and she chose option C. God bless Asheville, we even got a protest out of it!
