So I have been free of heartburn for this pregnancy, except for the day I found out I was pregnant. I have had vomiting, nausea, and other fun things I shall not mention here, but no heartburn.
The last three nights I have had acid like no one's business and heartburn. So not excited about this! ![]()
Just had to vent.....
Re: heartburn city
Yeah, Tums can make it worse sometimes. Like your body wants to make some certain amoutn of acid, and Tums neutralizes some of it, so your body just pumps out more.
Ask your doc if you're not sure. But I'll tell you mine is super ridiculously conservative - I cant' dye my hair for instance - and he syas its' OK.

Oh, how I feel your pain! ?I was literally crying last night because I had heartburn so bad. ?I finally fell asleep around midnight and woke up again at 2 because the heartburn was back with a vengence, and I didn't get back to sleep until after 3. ?I took both Zantac and Maalox and it didn't touch it. ?This morning I researched heartburn remedies during pregnancy, and it said that remedies like Zantac should be used before meals because it doesn't work as well to neutralize the acid that's already there; it's much more effective at preventing the acid in the first place. ?(If I'd had any idea it was going to be so bad, I would have taken it before dinner, but it surprised me.)
The other thing I read was to chew gum during the day. Chewing gum causes you to produce more saliva, which neutralizes stomach acids.
Also, Tums can make certain medications (like Zantac) less effective. ?I didn't realize that last night and took a handful of Tums. ?Needless to say, I won't be doing that again.
Oh, and I read a comment on babycenter.com that bananas can also help. ?I don't know if that's true, but ?it's worth a try.
Good luck! ?I hope you find something that's effective for you.?
