Nursery opinions...

Ok, so I think I determined which bedding I like for the nursery, and already have my cute lamps. So now I'm on to thinking about wall colors. I'm thinking two toned would be nice, and to put up a chair rail around the room. But I'm not quite sure what colors to go with. So, what are your ideas?

Re: Nursery opinions...

  • I think the green in your bedding and lamp would look nice. But it's a little small to see if it would turn out too much like pukey green....then again if you're going with a chair rail you could have green and white. I think that would be nice with the bedding.

  • Just a warning on that bedding- I read A LOT of reviews on it that said it was a poor quality and came open at seems after a few washes.  (I REALLY liked it for a girl's room)

If you're still going with it though- I think I'd do white beadboard wainscoting on the bottom and a pale lavendar on top... but I LOVE purple and would use morein my boy's room if DH would let me.

  • I would go for a sage green (or maybe a pale blue). You could do stripes in a lighter shade above the chair rail and solid below (I did this with DD's old nursery at our old house in yellow. PIB, link in siggy if you want to see).

  • We didn't use the same bedding, but ours has a lot of similar colors and we picked out the pink and green in it. My husband and dad just got up the chair rail today and I LOVE it. It's not painted yet, but you can already see how it ties the room together.

Wow, you have a ton of good ideas in your blog- I may have to page you for advice later on! How cool that you're making your own stuff- after reading the above post that this set is poorly made, I might be heading over to Hancocks or JoAnne's myself to see what they have and see if there's anything I like and could make myself. I like the stripes idea and am now wondering how that would look with more than one color, or if tone on tone is the way to go.

  • The problem with this bedding and picking a paint colour is that you will end up pulling out the complimentary or opposite colour than you expect.

If you paint the walls green the pink and red will become dominant.

If you paint the walls blue, you will see the yellow or anything with an orangey tone.

If you go with ?pink walls, the green will become dominant.

With something that busy, I would end up going with a white on the walls and perhaps the palest of tiffany blue's on the ceiling. This way all the colours have equal weight, which is really what that bedding is designed for. Then you could accent one or two of the fave colours with your furniture and art work.?

Thanks for the input- I actually wouldn't mind if the pinks and reds stuck out (I think they're rather dominant anyway, and are more of what catch my eye) so maybe a light green is the way to go. The only problem with white walls is I have a 3yo son- white and 3yo boys don't go well together, as is evidenced by my sparkly craft paint that currently graces the spare room walls. I figure if I go with some sort of color, it hides children's "artwork" better. lol

  • Do beadboard on the bottom of the walls. That's even more child friendly than regular drywall. I wouldn't do anything more than a hint of green above though. It could end up making the pink too pepto. ?Tend towards a pale apple or pear green too. NO Sage. Sage is muted and muddy and will not go with this bedding.
  • I'm not familiar with beadboard- I'm assuming whomever I ask at Lowes will know what I'm talking about if I ask?
  • we actually have that lamp in our master bedroom and our room is valspar hubble house green its really pretty and bright but not gawdy...good luck! it looks great with the green in the shade
