Anyone use middle name as first name?

My husband actually does this, but my neighbor wants to call her one year old by her middle name instead of first name.  Anyone do this?

Re: Anyone use middle name as first name?

  • not me, but my dad, two of my aunts, and my SIL. my SIL is the weirdest one. her first name is amanda. she went by amanda, but her grandma didn't like it and wanted her to go by Gracie (MN Grace). well when she was 2 she proclaimed that she wasn't Amanda anymore but Gracie. everyone listened and changed her name.... i just can't imagine letting my 2 year old tell me what to call her and listening! i also think it's crap on Grandma's part - as it's a control issue coming from her. she's currently trying to change my kids name.... i might kill her. oops - sorry this turned into a rant! didn't mean for it to!

  • DH & I call DD by her middle name, but most everyone else in the family calls her by her first name. So it's both for her.

If #2 is a boy, he will only go by his middle name and not his first. If #2 is a girl, we will probably call her by her first name and not her middle name. It all depends.

  • This is JMO, but coming from someone who has always went by her middle name, it sucks.

In school I've always had to correct teachers each time I get into a class with a new one.  I have my first name listed on all official documents but nobody knows me by that name.  It's a hassle.  I've started using my first name professionally now and using my middle name with friends/family.  It seems to work better that way but I still hesistate to answer someone if they call me by my first name, I'm like 'is he/she talking to me?' Lol

  • In DH's family the second sons are all named Benjamin and go by their middle name. We'll be following the tradition.

I totally agree. I am in the same boat but I still go by my middle name kind of...

I go by a nickname of my middle name. I am Mary Catherine and go by Cathy. My mom's name is Mary so I have always had to go by my MN nickname to keep us differenciated. It is frustrating and honestly poor planning on my parents part. I wish she would have just called me Catherine Mary instead.
