Eco-Friendly Family

*This* is why I Twitter - EF related - some interesting info.

I started with Twitter to do more business-ey promotion stuff (and love the cloth diaper chats on Monday nights), but have found an AMAZINGLY abundant network of environmental resources giving me so much information on a daily basis.  I feel like I"d have to read dozens of news sites, environmental blogs, etc, just to get what I'm learning from a few "tweets" on Twitter.

This particular revelation came about because of these tweets I read in a few minutes tonigh...

- a "re-tweet" (like a C&P) from someone I follow.  She posted this video on plastic.  VERY good and eye-opening video.

- I checked out the original poster of the video.  Turns out he has a interesting environmental website.  I started following him on Twitter.

- He (is in Australia) tweeted about a global ban the bag (plastic) petition, which I started reading into.  Read some comments on his blog post and found a letter written to Target asking them to ban plastic bags and Target's response (which was lame).

- Subsequently learned Target in Australia no longer uses plastic bags as of June 1st.  I think that's really neat.  I secretly give the evil eye to people who still don't use reusable bags.  It's SO easy to do and I HATE seeing people leave a store with a cart full of plastic...makes me cringe.

(I know I'm a TOTAL dork, but I'm enjoying some computer time while I'm vacationing at my favorite place on Earth).

  • I am jealous of Australia. How neat is that?!
  • Loading the player...
  • i'm on twitter, too... but i've never done the CD chat. i might have to do that this week!

    i wanna be like australia.

  • When i lived in Germany back in 2001, it was already the cultural norm to bring your own cloth bags wherever you went.  In fact, if you didn't bring a bag and needed one, they would charge you!  It gave me hope thinking that the states would soon catch on to this obvious trend because it saves the stores money as well as the environment.  I feel like we are moving so slowly away from plastics and it's making me nuts how addicted people are to "convenience"  Sad
