Two Under 2

VBAC anyone?

I'm considering having a Vaginal Birth After C-section... I just don't want to go in to labour with number two and everything be fine and they just "cut me open" because that's what I decided.

I'm going to talk to my OB about whether or not it's a good idea. What would be ideal is if I scheduled a c-section and if I go in to labour sooner than that date, just see if it's progressing ok.

Has anyone done VBAC? Would you recommend it? What about those of you that have had two c-sections? Any regrets with number 2?

Re: VBAC anyone?

  • I had a VBAC. I didn't plan on having one, actually. With my first, I labored for 18 hours and stalled at 7cm. I then had an emergency c-section. When I got pregnant with DS they told me I should schedule another c-section because people who stall during labor and don't dilate fully usually cannot push out a baby. Plus, they told me my pelvis was too narrow to birth a baby, and since DS was measuring bigger than DD I'd likely fail if I tried a vbac. So I scheduled the c-section. When I woke up to get ready on the day of my c-section, I heard a loud pop and my water broke. I was in active labor. When I got to the hospital I was already almost 7 cm. I decided to wing it and go for the vbac. I was successful and the whole labor and delivery only took 6 hours. I did need forceps at the very end for about 30 seconds, which hurt like HECK (much worse than labor pains), but then he was out. I have no regrets. I really feel like in my case it was meant to be.
  • Thanks. And nice story too.

  • I wanted to, but couldn't. Both girls were breech and never budged, and I was not allowed to VBAC with DS because I had already had 2 c-sections.

All 3 of my c-sections were great. I was up, showered and walking the next day. I never had pain meds after my c/s's in the hospital or at home. I have a high tolerance for pain.

I do have friends with 2u2 that have had successful VBACs.......

    Best wishes!

  • I was offered VBAC with them 17 months apart.

I elected a repeat section because DS #2's head started measuring almost as large as DS #1's head.

We just decided not to try. ?The odds were against us and I didn't want to recover from both labor AND a section if I could avoid it.

Per my OB the most recent study data supports that it's really not all that risky to go VBAC even when they're spaced close together. ??

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • I am planning one mostly because I hated how long it took me to recover not the inital being on pain meds but still taking ibuprofen almost daily for 3 months after. ?Your doc may not do them. ?I switched so I could. ?Depends on the reason. ?DD was breech hoping this one wont be. ?There is are risks but my new doctor said if you want more than 3 at least try for a VBAC because multiple caesareans tend to have more complications with 4th and beyond. ?

  • I'm going to try! I had a great labor and everything progressed nicely. My DS turned his head facing the side and wouldn't drop at all so we had to do a c/s. My doctors are very encouraging about my upcoming VBAC, so we'll see!
  • I'm hoping to do one but I'll leaving it open to how things go.  I never really progressed on my own the first time so if by 37-38 weeks, I've not started progressing, I'm going to schedule a c/s for around my EDD in hopes that I still go into labor before then.  The risks with VBAC vs. risks with repeat c/s are pretty similar from what I've read/been told so we're going to see how things go.

  • I am not a candidate for a VBAC.  Heck, I am not even a candidate for a vaginal birth period.

Good luck with your decision and do what is best for you and your family.
