I'm extremely irritated!!!

I was really excited about this part-time accounting position that opened up in Renton earlier this year.  (You may remember me posting about it.)  At the time, the recruiter was really excited about me and thought I was a good fit.  BUT...the hiring manager didn't even want to interview me cause only have experience working with large companies with huge budgets.  UGH...

Interestingly, the job has opened up again.  So, I contacted the recruiter again.  She just called me and said that unfortunately they still don't want to interview me.  Apparently, they just don't know how my working for large companies is going to be able to translate to their (small) $2m budget.  Oh, and they also feel that it would be way too far for me to commute.

I'm just so upset cause part-time accounting jobs that actually pay well ($25+/hour) are extremely hard to find.  Yes, my commute might be long but to find a 20hr/week job that pays this well WOULD BE SO WORTH IT!  (And who are they to decide how far is too far to travel for a job!!!!)   I even pointed out that I've been *working* at DD's coop preschool for the last 2 years.  My position is high enough that I sit on the board of directors and make decisions for the school.  So, I DO have experience working in a small company so to speak.  I'm just so mad cause I am a great employee and they are losing out just because they don't even want to at least talk to me!  (obviously the last person didn't work out if they are reposting the position 4 months later!)  UGH

Can anyone comiserate (sp?) with me?

  • Ugh! If it's any help, it sounds like they might not be wonderful to work with...but I know that's small comfort when you really want the job. It is so frustrating to encounter that, they should at least interview you!

  • I'm sorry Susan, that must be so frustrating!
  • I dont' understand what the issue is. math is math.  If the numbers add up to $20million vs. $2million, so what?  YOu still know how to add.  And you still know the rules that apply to a business and how they deal with money.   They sound like assholes.

  • How horrible of them!!! You would think that your experience with a large company would be an asset, not a hinderance. The morons!

That said - I might have a job lead for you...

I have a friend who does accounting and she took on a second job because money was tight. It was part time for a small business. She ended having to drop it because she just was trying to do too much and was seriously over booking herself. I just sent her an email to see if there was any info on the job - cause she *just* dropped it. They might not have replaced her yet. And I think they were in Bothell. :)

I will page you as soon as I hear back from her. It might be a few days though - I think they left today for California to visit family.

  • Umm, that'sss... ridiculous. Agreed that your experience would be an asset, not a hinderance. Also agreed that based on this behavior, they might not be the best ppl to work with. It does suck, and you have every reason to be angry. But since they've already made it clear twice that they don't think you're a good fit for them, I think it would be best for you to just move on. Their loss.?
  • I'm sorry Susan!!
