2nd Trimester

Hate the roommate

We are moving next weekend so I know that this is dumb but I have finally gotten to my breaking point. I have been living with my husband in a 2 bedroom duplex for about 4 months now. We have been living here waiting out our lease and looking for a new home. Which we found and will be moving into next weekend. But our dishwasher broke about 1 month ago, and I have no problem doing my husband and my dishes but our housemate insists on leaving his dishes in the sink and then loading them into the BROKEN dish washer! WTF! so I have to re-wash them because they are actually OUR dishes. So today I packed all our dishes and bought paper. I just hit my breaking point.

Do you think I went to far? or just far enough?

Re: Hate the roommate

  • Haha... I vote for just far enough. Good for you!

  • Why do you guys have a roommate?  I'm not being snarky, curious because that can be hard on a marriage, especially when a baby is coming.  Is htis roommate moving with you?

I had a former roommate who never washed her dishes.  DH (not married yet) lived in the apt. across the hall, so I quit eating in our apt and at at DH's and just washed our dishes there.

    Why does this matter?

I had a roomate who used my dishes and then let them sit in the sink for two weeks before washing them.  I think you were fine to pack them up.  I mean, you're moving, it's not like you're going to bring dirty dishes with you.

  • we have a roommate because he already lived at the house before I moved in and we couldn't just kick him out. It hasn't been hard on our marriage cause I have kept this to myself. HE IS NOT MOVING WITH US! he is actually moving in with his parents, when the lease is up on the 30th.
  • Sounds like a winner!  Good for you!!!
  • Nope I would have done the same thing.  Actually now that I think about it, I did do that a few years ago with my old roommates. Stick out tongue
  • sounds like a perfect reason to start packing.

  • While I was in college, I lived in a house that my parents owned (3 br/2bth).  A girl my parents somewhat knew was moving to the town I lived in to go to college.  My parents invited her to move in with me, which was ok by me because I was young and liked the idea of having someone else in the house with me.  About 2 weeks after she moved in, I came home and all my dishes in the cabinet were gone and were replaced by dishes that she went out and bought.  I asked her where my dishes were and she told me that she had packed them up and put them in a box in the garage.  (She was only renting a room.  I told here before she moved in to only bring things that would go in her bedroom because the entire house was completely furnished.)  I then packed up all of her new dishes and got my dishes out of the garage and put them back in the cabinet.    Gotta love a roommate.
  • I think you did the right thing. If it was his house first, why didn't he have any plates of his own. I wouldn't even want to spend MY money on paper plates for the lazy dude, but that's just me.?

  • my hubby has lived here 2.5 years and has gone through 3 roommates up till now. This guy moved in in september. I moved in, in march. Thats what I meant. I don't know why he thinks he's entitled to using our stuff. For me its like get your own sh*t and use that. I hate having a roommate because I just don't enjoy being around people that do nothing for my life. I am so beyond excited to finally share my life with my husband only
  • Just far enough. You're moving no one wants to be constantly doing dishes... paper is great!
