Using pocket dipe as swim dipe?

Does anyone do this? I am thinking PUL directly against the skin would be uncomfortable, so what about using a pocket?

Mine is a pocket diaper that was a second from monkeysnuggles. We love it.

Can you reuse it as a diaper then, or does it have to stay only a "swim diaper"?

  • I did this yesterday... didn't work as well as I had hoped.

The dipe fit perfectly with an insert, but when I took the insert out for swimming, the leg elastic was baggy around his legs.  bad bad bad.  Luckily I had sewn the dipe with the fold over rise like the KCK so I could just fold it to make the legs more snug.  Also the PUL filled up with water which made it sag even more.

I'd be going back and forth with it depending on which was clean then.

I'm thinking of using BG 3.0 dipes. I can snap down the rise to make the legs more snug. Would that help?

Maybe I'll just sew one up. I'm being lazy.

I think some people use them again. I am not sure, the description on the one I bought basically said it could be a cover or swim diaper because the suedecloth inner was waterproof.

check diapers.com under cloth diapers they have swim cloth on sale.

  • After swimming I throw it in the CD pail and use it again as a diaper.  I am sure over time chlorine wears out elastic faster, so that might be one reason to dedicate a diaper for swimming.  But we don't swim often enough to worry.

I think a BG where you could snap it down tighter would work fine.

  • I sort of ruined some of the breathable HPs by boiling them, so I set aside one of those for swimming.  The PUL got all funny and there is a tiny hole in it on the back of the diaper.  I think I read that chlorine can damage the PUL as well as the elastic, so I'd use a pocket you don't care much about and designate it as the swim diaper.  If you swim somewhere without chlorine (a lake or whatever) or swim infrequently, it probably wouldn't matter so much.

HPs are OS, so I just snapped down the rise to the smallest setting & it fits perfectly with no insert.

  • We use BG w/o a liner for swimming, just make sure it's on super tight.  Works well, and we reuse as diaper.  Did the same last summer, swam almost every day, and haven't had any residual effects from chlorine.
  • We use a FuzziBunz as a swim diaper. It snaps on tighter than with an insert, but it works great. We used the same one last fall for swim lessons (5 days a week for 6 week) and we're still using it this year (in the chlorine about twice a week) and it is still exactly the same as the rest of our CD's.

I do recommend using a snap diaper- the velcro can snag a suit (yours or DC's) and pull the fabric. Sized diapers also work better because they don't hold as much water in them.
