It's no secret that teacher's have to shell out a lot of their own money to pay for classroom supplies needed for daily activities and lessons. Today, our district sent us a very nice e-mail and informed us that we would NOT be getting our supply checks ($250) in the Fall. This SUCKS b/c I use that money to buy my students binders, baskets and other incidentals that I will need to get the year going. Parents at my school are extremely slack and do not send in the requested supplies so, unfortunately, I can not count on them to send in anything. ::vent over::

Re: Thank-you cheap-@ss school district!
I cannot imagine! That is INFURIATING!! I am trying to resist the urge to get up on my soap box and rant about irresponsible spending when our children don't get jack in the classroom. I am so, so sorry. Is it possible that you could go to your local Target or Walmart or CVS and tell them the deal. Maybe they'd be willing to pitch in a few things. It's ridiculous that you'd even have to do that. I'm SO SORRY!

HAHA, no worries, but every district is different!!! Good luck, maybe you can get some help somewhere!!!
We get about$120. In a history class I need to cover light bulbs for the over head projecter ($30 a piece), I try to update some of the materials (a new DVD or two from the History Channel @ approx $40 a piece), paper, colored pens, etc. Including other incidentals I usually average $500 a year.
I feel your pain.
I love Target's back to school sale. You have to be there in early August and get their when they open in the morning. We always get the Office Depot catalog but a pack of Crayola pens cost $2.79 from there and if you get them at the back to school sale at Target they cost $.99. Can't beat it!
