2nd Trimester

Hospital Stays...

I just got back from a lunch meeting at work for the new healthcare plan...this new plan charges 300 a day for hospital stays...so for a regularly delivery that would be what 600-900 and a c-section more than that..

I am really glad I have my husband's insurance which costs nothing for hospital stays and no co-pay for any pre-natal/post-natal care....

Re: Hospital Stays...

  • Yeah, we have amazing insurance with DH's work... just the co-pay at the first prenatal appointment and I think that's it.

  • Holy Cow! That is crazy that they have a base daily price! Some women end up in the hospital for weeks or months prior to delivery....YIKES! That's 3,000 per week!

  • I mean to say...that's 3,000 every 10 days. Geeesh...out of school 2 weeks and I can't do basic math! I'm a good teacher...I promise.... =)

  • I'm fairly sure we won't have a co-pay for the actual hospital stay. Everything else is another story. Our Explanation of Benefits says our insurance covers a minimum of 48 hours for an uncomplicated vaginal birth, and a minimum of 72 hours for an uncomplicated C-section. I pay my normal $15 co-pay for maternity visits. I had no co-pay for either of my emergency ultrasounds. So it's actually much better insurance than we thought!

  • In the hospital that I gave birth to my DS it was 3 people to a room and that was free. You could have a semi-private room which was you and one other person that was about $25 a night, or a private room which was somewhere around $50 maybe a little more. I went for the semi private room and there happened to be no one in the bed next to me and that was really nice. This time around I am going to go with the completly private room. Looking back I would have hated sharing a room with a stranger. I want to spend those first hours with my baby bonding and being around people I know and love. My SIL went with the 3 person room and ended up next to a woman who drove her crazy. Lucky for her she gave birth at 3 in the morning and was back home by noon.

  • I'm *super* lucky. My OB only delivers at the new hospital near us, and all L&D rooms are private, with big-screen TV's and a bed for DH.
