I wasn't planning on testing until AF was late, which would be like Tues or Wed. But I thought it would be a nice Father's Day suprise for DH if I got a BFP. If I had an implantation dip at 9dpo, is 12dpo too early to test? Does it take longer for the digital tests, or are both regular and digital tests the same in sensitivity?

Re: Too soon to test?
If you wouldn't be too disappointed to see the BFN, I would test on Father's Day. But if it would make the day too depressing, then I would wait. I think from what I have read that digital tests generally have less sensitivity than some of the other tests.
I'm in the club that waits. Honestly, I've just become so bitter from all the BFNs ruining my holidays. I wish you tons of luck, but I think it would be just as awesome if you were to get your BFP a couple days later.

I got a BFP before at 12 dpo. So, I think you can test that early. Just know that it might still be a little early.
My beta at 12 dpo was 43. I got a positive on a First Response test. I think that I would have probably gotten a negative off of a digital at 12 dpo, since I think your betas need to be over 50 for most digitals.
I think the First Response regular test's sensitivity is as low as 25.
Personally I'd go for it. I wouldn't be able to resist trying for such an awesome surprise on daddy's day! As long as you think you'll be able to reassure yourself enough that you still might get a positive re-testing later to be emotionally ok if it is a BFN. And I'd definitely go with one of the early response tests to increase your odds.
