Pregnancy Workouts

Totally random, but I need to get my butt more active so that I can help keep myself from blimping out too huge for the rest of my pregnancy and was wondering if any of you knew of any or used any pregnancy workouts when you were pregnant that you felt were productive and not too difficult for you physically? I didn't workout at all when I was pregnant with Hudson and gained 40+ lbs (can't remember the exact amount) and would really like to try to stay closer to a 30 lb. gain especially since I already started out heavier than I was when I got pregnant with him. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Pregnancy Workouts

  • I did the eliptical 3 times a week up until about week 32.  I still gained 60+ pounds though, and that was even with a good diet.  I think your body just does what it's going to do regardless in some people.

But still, the eliptical was very low impact and not hard.  I also heard yoga was great too and just regular walking.

  • My two main pregnancy excercises were :

    1) Puking - great for the abs! I did this daily for roughly 9 months.

    2) Crying - great for losing that extra water weight!

Seriously, I applaud you for trying to exercise. I was way too miserable. I have heard that just walking is great but it is SO hot so that could suck. Maybe on a treadmill in the a/c?

  • I was going to continue running, but when I broke my foot at 13 weeks, I pretty much gave up exercise for 6 weeks. After the foot healed, I went back to just doing the eliptical and light weights. Once I hit about 36 weeks, though, all I did was walk around my neighborhood with the dog. Even with regular exercise and a good diet, I gained nearly 40 lbs, too. I also think your body will gain what it needs to, but working out will help with so much more than the weight issue.

  • I went for long walks almost every day, and I did a prenatal yoga dvd almost every day as well.  I really liked the one I had, I think it was starring a chick named Shiva something.  One thing though, it had 3 women doing the moves, one for each trimester, and the 3rd trimester chick had a grody wet spot.  Yeah, I said it, she needed to be wearing some depends.  ick.
  • You are chasing Hudson this time around as opposed to the 1st.  I bet he is a pretty good workout! :)
