CDs and Front loaders

If you CD can you recommend your front loader?  In a matter of weeks I'll have 3 in diapers (yikes!) and we need a new washing machine.  I am getting seriously conflicting reviews between consumer reports and Amazon customer reviews.  So confusing to me!

Thanks!

Re: CDs and Front loaders

  • I've heard that Maytag is great. We have a Whirlpool Duet Sport & it's okay, although I wish it had a sanitary cycle. FL's aren't the best for CDs though - a top loader would be ideal.

  • Oh oh oh I LOVE my Electrolux! I mean love - when we moved back from London the first thing I did was buy this and I cannot say how much I love it. It is HUGE and fast and beautiful. What more can you ask for in a machine?

I also love that for CD's I can program it with a setting called "My Diapers" so DH doesn't have an excuse not to do them. And that setting does a prewash, hot wash and extra rinse all in one without having to do anything extra.  It is FABULOUS and I would marry it if I could.

Thanks!  I had no idea! Man, back to the research- I  thought FL was the way to go.  Oh dear!

  • We have a Kenmore and it works great! So far the diapers have been clean. I do a rinse in cold, the wash with the Heavy Duty cycle with three rinses.
  • Ours are Bosch and I adore them.  I really think the FL/TL debate depends on what models you're comparing.  We started CDing with a TL and our FL gets our diaps (and clothes) MUCH cleaner than the TL ever did.  There is seriously nothing in my house I love more than my washer.

  • We have the old Maytag Neptune and LOVE it.  There is absolutely no reason a front loader can't get your dipes clean.  All that nonsense about needing lots of water is just ridiculous.  But, I do use a diaper sprayer--no solid poops into the machine for me!

My machine isn't programmable, but does have a WHITES cycle that is perfect for dipes.

I think there is some debate on it, but I've noticed that more water = cleaner diapers. Although, like pp said, it probably depends on how good your FL is. Our is on the less expensive end (I think it retails for 7-800 although we did buy it scratched for cheaper from Lowe's) so if you're not looking to spend a lot, you might consider a high quality TL. :)

    Good luck!! :)

oooo...that sounds heavenly.  I want one!!!

We have a relatively cheap Kenmore FL and it is ok.  It doesn't have enough options for CDs and could do a better job getting them clean.  I noticed when we went to visit family that both MIL's and my mom's TLs got our diapers cleaner than our machine.

  • We have Maytage Epic washer/dryer.  I love them.  ours has a Superwash setting we use for CD wash, plus an extra rinse.  I have some stains, but I'm pretty sure it's a normal amount, and they are otherwise very clean.  I think it does a great job on them.  I've never washed them in anything exept a FL.

  • Thanks, ladies, for all the input.  The Electrolux looks like a dream, but talking DH into an $1800 washer is so not going to happen anytime soon- bummer.  I'll look into the others.  Both sides of the debate make sense to me.  I guess I just need to really sit down and sort through it.  Thank you for the suggestions!
