When's the latest you put up a crib?

I am 30 weeks and delivering at 37.  SILs offered to buy one of our cribs (months ago).  As of today, the three of them cannot figure out when/if they can get the money together to do so.  I say we should just buy it, DH says I am being ungrateful and rushing it.

It is in stock, so as soon as it is purchased we can set it up.  We could wait a few more weeks, but I am afraid I will go early, and then we will have three kids 2 and under at home and I cannot imagine how/when we will find the time to put together the crib, bedding etc.

Re: When's the latest you put up a crib?

  • Could you just get the crib and maybe they can buy the mattress if they're really looking for something to go in on? Just tell them you were concerned about the shipping time, or make up an excuse that you had a coupon or something if you don't want to offend them.  That way if they don't come through with the mattress you could always just go out and buy one since those are always available.  Just a thought.

  • if you go earlier than 37w chances are the babies would be in the NICU for a little while... so you'd still have time.

I'd say by 36w you should make sure you have somewhere for them to sleep - crib or bassinet - for sure- b/c at 36w they COULD come right home if born... .earlier than that you'd have some time.

we made sure to have everything ready at 36w... but made it to 38.

  • agree with Goldie. we are just going to use the craddle for the first few months so no cribs will be set up. I wouldn't get too worried, you still have time!
  • Thanks girls. I am definitely getting anxious, but part of that is because DH has been out of work for 9 months now.  If they are not going to be able to purchase it I would just rather do it now when we have the money before my pay stops, rather than wait and find out later that they cannot/will not do it.  I will talk to DH more and see what he says.
  • We didn't assemble the cribs until the babies were around 3 months old, their room was the guest room for helpers up until that point.  Before that they slept in our room in a cosleeper.
