"Sack lunch" for preschool? Need ideas.

I've been lucky for the last 3 years that DS's daycare prepares a hot, homecooked lunch every day.  He starts preschool in September & we have to send him off with a "sack lunch" and I'm at a loss for ideas beyond PB&J and a cheese sandwich.

I'm asking for ideas now because DS takes a while to like new things (even if he's had the individual ingredients before), so I need to start introducing new meals now if I want him to actually eat them in September.  As an example, DS likes bread & he likes cheese, but it took me 4 different times before he would actually try a cheese sandwich -- introducing mustard is next.  Tongue Tied

So, what are some of your preschooler's favorite sack lunches?

ETA:  According to the school the lunches can't be microwaved or kept in a fridge.  So, it's got to be eaten as it is.

  • we send lunch everyday.  staples are yogurt, blueberries/grapes, and crackers.

i send lots of smuckers grilled cheese pocket sandwiches, those little little rigatoni meals, rice and veggie mixes, and lots of leftovers (esp goulash).  i know otehr parents send easy mac on lazy days too.

its hard to keep things interesting.  hope they have a microwave!

  • bagels with cream cheese, cheese sticks with crackers, yogurt with fruit salad, pasta salad, hummus with prezels and carrot sticks
    .
  • I sometimes make DS "Lunchables."  I have a little container divided into sections, kind of like a bento box.  He likes wheat crackers, cheese, turkey, pretzel goldfish, fruit cut up in small bites, and sometimes mini cookies.
