Eating Deli Meat......

Is it safe?  I have been told not to eat it unless it is cooked - like a toasted sub, something about the bacteria that is on it- our bodies can handle but the baby's cannot.  But I just had a chef salad with turkey breast(deli style)- I'm not in a panic or anything, but should I order it without next time? Or is it okay in small amounts?

Re: Eating Deli Meat......

  • My doctor said there's a slight chance that the bacteria listeria could be present in deli meats.  The recommendation is that they're ok as long as they're heated to "steaming."  Hope this helps!

  • I ate it a few times while pregnant.. No biggie to me..?
  • My dr. told me that its perfectly fine to eat lunch meat and in her 30 years, she has never seen a women catch Listeria from lunch meat. I am 33 weeks and have been eating it since the 2nd Tri on a semi-normal basis, at least one sandwich a week. As long as you aren't buying it from the side of the road I am pretty confident its safe.
