YouAreMyILoveYou

I just read your post about the "crazy blogger"?techniques?not being abuse... and actually just wanted to let you know then in the vast majority of states (not sure about Texas) it's illegal to hit a child with anything other then an open hand on the child's bottom... anything else anywhere else IS classified as abuse.

  • I looked up Texas's laws and it says nothing about hitting with an object vs. a hand.

At www.childwelfare.gov you can look at state specific laws.

  • Loading the player...
  • Where do you find such laws for review? I am familiar with several child psycologists that recommend that spankings should never be done with your hand, only with an implement. The reasoning behind this is that then the child associates discipline with the object, and does not develop a distrust/fear of the parent. They know that if they do something wrong, they will be spanked by the implement, and the implement only, never swatted at or hit by the parent. I find it hard to believe that this would be a prevelant recommendation if it is illegal in most states. I'm just curious...

Thanks for the link... I'm actually sad for kids living in Texas... from what I'm reading there the definition of?neglect?excludes?reasonable discipline by a parent that does not expose the child to a substantial risk of harm. Which in my mind means the whackos can do way more then just lightly spank :(
