Our first day of the CD trial.....

It went pretty well.  I started with the fuzzibunz pocket and DS had a very small leak, then did the BG OS pocket and that held up very nice, then was bold enough to try a prefold which went surprisingly well, and now he is sleeping in the thirsties AIO with the BG newborn liner for extra protection.

Comments so far:

-the BG organic AIO OS takes FOREVER to dry in the dryer.  We didnt get to use it today cause I spent most of the day washing and drying it 4 times per the directions.

-was disappointed that the fuzzibunz leaked allbeit small because the sposies we use never leak during the day

-they are all much bulkier then i was expecting.  i didnt realize how much slimmer sposies were

-the prefold were surprisingly not difficult (i was petrified of them)

Re: Our first day of the CD trial.....

  • Yeah, most AIOs take forever to dry.  We have BG AIOs and I always have to set them out to dry after the other diapers are already dry.

Do the Thirsties AIO have pockets?  I can't remember because you need to be sure not to put the microfiber insert against the skin.

So what's your initial impression, will you continue past the 21 days?

  • Yes, the Thirsties AIO has a pocket as well.....thanks for the info on not putting it against the skin (i didnt, but its good to know)

So far I think it is a definite possibility.  Im curious to see how he did overnight.

  • Don't be discouraged if the Thirsties AIO leaks majorly for you overnight... I could never get those to last more than an hour (if that!) during the day.

It's good that you liked the prefolds because those are the least expensive!! :-) I've enjoyed them because they don't leave any red marks from elastic on the baby's skin.

  • Yep, don't put microfiber directly against skin.  I don't know if you notice when you handle it but it's a very thirsty fabric that will draw moisture out of whatever it's touching directly.

I second the comment about the Thirsties leaking horribly.  We tried to use them when DS was a newborn and they were a big fat fail which was very sad because I liked the design & trimness.

  • I had almost the same experience as you with the JD trial. I don't like FB - they leak, they don't fit properly, they're a pain in general. I like the BG organic (mostly because of the material) but man it takes ages to dry. I like my thirsties and I like the BG pocket - anything with a pocket works for me basically. DS needs extra stuffing.

I was surprised by how bulky some were and how slim others were. Our overnight diaper is insanely big. I mean to the point that sometimes I just can't get it on him properly and he looks like a sumo wrestler or something.

The only thing we couldn't use were the prefolds - DS was too big. But I would love to try some someday. I definitely will with any future babies.
