Cricketts get great reviews, right?

I was thinking about getting a couple for overnight since the BG with a MF and Foofoo seems to not be cutting it every night anymore. I have a B4 which I like but I got it used and it had a stink issue and I am afraid to try it again (stupid I know) since I used RLR) I plan on trying it again, but want a couple more inexpensive workhorse fitteds for overnight.

Re: Cricketts get great reviews, right?

  • I like my cricketts, and they worked as nighttime fitteds when DS was younger, but I wouldn't even try them now.  IMO, they're not as absorbent as GM's or B4's, just not nearly as many layers.  We use them a lot for daytime when we need something trim that holds up pretty well. (traveling)

I thought they were HORRIBLE in quality and fit.  I can't begin to tell you how disappointed I was.  So much so, they went to the trash.  For the same price and MUCH better quality- try Sunseedling or Motherease Sandy's (I add doublers to both without issues for nightime and my LO sleeps 12 hours at night).  Hope this helps.
  • I've really liked our Happy Hempy fitteds for night with a wool cover. We use a super-do insert and it works perfectly.
  • I just sold my Cricketts.

She outgrew them way too fast (too low of a rise IMO), I didn't like the feel (papery and rough once washed many times) and not absorbent enough to justify how bulky they are (too bulky for daytime).

My best combo is a B4 with a hemp insert under 2 of the B4 snap-in inserts with my Aristocrats soaker.

Sunseedlings are pretty fab, but I find they take FOREVER to dry.  I sometimes use a Mother-Ease Sandies with FooFoo or Thirsties hemp insert too, but the B4 is the best one we have found for nighttime.

  • i love my cricketts...use them at night with wool.  and the construction is as good as any other dipe i've had.  i can't imagine throwing them away...i'm stumped!

they do have to be prepped w/ about 6 washes.

  • I must admit - it surprises me the wide spread of love/hate for the cricketts.  And ditto renee, I can't imagine throwing them out, even though they're not my favorite diaper in my stash.  Go figure! :)

  • Add me to the hate (although that's a strong word) side.

The leg holes are large, so the fit was never great for my DD, and they never seemed to last long, even after months of using them.  They never would have cut it overnight.  They barely lasted an hour for us during the day.

I use a B4, with a crocheted wool doubler underneath 2 of the B4 inserts.  When I added the doubler, she doesn't wet through the diaper, even with multiple feedings at night.  Wool on the outside of course.

GL finding your solution.  It can take some time.

  • Those are my laundry day diapers once I've run out of pretty much all of the others. I just don't like the fit on DD, they're too hard for my parents, who we live with, to figure out (to be honest, I'm not sure I'm snapping them right either, so can't blame them!), and DD usually ends up crying when she's soaked through them quickly. We've been happy with BG bamboo fitteds for overnight so far, but she's only 3 months old and not STTN yet so "overnight" is pretty much 5-7 hours at most. I'm waiting for a GAD semi-fitted w/ bamboo inner in hopes it'll work well and last a long time since it's snappi-able.
  • I like my cricketts and never heard anything negative about them until this post!

However, they are not quite enough on their own to hold DD's massive nighttime pee. So I add a hemparoo to them and it works. DD's in the toddler size, she was on the edge of the infant/toddler sizing. I put it on the smallest waist setting without overlapping. Plenty of room to grow.

I also got 2 sunseedlings which are much cuter and I can just barely use without additional layers added to them. I got the nighttime one with a snap-in, not the AIO version. The downside of these is that a) they run small IMO. DD is 27.5lbs and the larges BARELY fit her. And I got the velour ones which have more stretch to them than the printed cotton ones. And b) the velcro is mediocre mostly because it's so small and the laundry tabs suck worse than any I've ever seen (and I used kushies, so I thought I'd seen the worst of crappy laundry tabs). She offers snaps as well, but I wanted a couple more dipes that are grandpa-friendly.
