We switched DS to a convertible car seat when he was 5.5 months old. He just didn't like laying back anymore and he was way too heavy to be carrying around in an infant seat anyway. He didn't even like laying back in his stroller; he likes sitting up. He loves his new seat though, and gets excited when he sees it.?

Do you mean that he is getting too big? Check the height/weight limits on your carseat. We switched from the infant carseat to the convertible carseat at about 7 months.
DD tries to sit up in her infant seat, but she's a peanut and is still way under the weight limit on it, and it doesn't make her mad to be reclined. If you think your LO would be more comfortable sitting up in the convertible, go for it.
