Working Moms

my daycare costs now exceed my mortgage

my checkbook is weeping. Just wrote the first check for both of them for full time daycare.

Thank goodness we got to keep DS home as long as we did.

Re: my daycare costs now exceed my mortgage

  • I wonder sometimes, am I in the wrong bussiness? LOL! Daycare is definately expensive, luckly we only need daycare for just the newborn(the cheapest rate I got was $40/day). If daycare got to the point where it is more than our mortgage I would be a sahm. sorry, but I do feel your pain.

  • Ugh - scary - ours starts in August at the double rate.  All I can say is thank goodness my mortgage is so low.  When we move it'll be a different story!
  • Yeah, I guess I should be glad my house is cheap (well, relatively speaking) since my kids sure aren't  Stick out tongue

This posts makes me wish i lived in a LCOL area.

  • Eh, the col is fairly low where we are and it is still more for daycare than we pay for where we live.  It's fantastic!

  • I only have one LO and daycare is already more than our mortgage - but that's partially because we intentionally bought a low cost house, so that I would only have to work part time at a random job (instead of full time at a career) if I wanted to.
Married June '03. DS born Jan '09. DD born Feb '12. No, we didn't choose to be childless for the first 6 years, only the first 3.
  • Ugh, DS's daycare is more expensive than our mortgage already... Sad
