3rd Trimester

Tell me your exercise motivation/routine

I've been pretty active this trimester. I have been walking a lot, participating in 5ks, etc...I am now totally drained. What have you been doing to stay active, and how to do you convince yourself to continue?

**how sad am I -- I contemplated getting an electric cart at walmart the other day, rather than pushing one!!

Re: Tell me your exercise motivation/routine

  • i continue to get up and go to the gym 4 or 5 days a week, and also mix in some prenatal yoga/pilates. if i go to the gym i usually do the elliptical, sometimes some light weights. it honestly hasn't been much of a struggle for me (yet at least) because it's always been my routine, and i know it makes me feel better both physically and mentally.

when i am lacking motivation i just remind myself how much better i'll feel if i do workout, and that (fingers crossed) it'll make things that much easier during l&d/recovery. or so i've heard!

  • I have kept up with my regular routine of 30 minutes of elliptical 3-4 times a week, and weights 2 days a week. In the last couple weeks I have completely slacked off because I'm exhausted and sore all the time.

My only motivation is the scale in the doctors office. Every time I go in, I'm afraid I'm going to have another 5 lb. weight gain in like one week!

  • I walk with DH here and there (not as much as I should).

I just try to be mindful of ice cream or anything I do indulge in and try to balance it out with healthy, less-fatting fare.

  • Exercise?  What's that???

Actually, I do walk.  I walk to work (about 12 blocks) and try to get DH to go with me in the evenings.  Other than that, zero exercise here.  We'll see if I'm even still walking when I'm as far along as you are, though.

  • You sound much more motivated and active than I am! I go for a walk every day - we're currently living in a really beautiful neighborhood (people here are HUGE gardeners and June is spectacular) so I just wander up and down the streets, looking into people's yards, for 45 min to an hour each day. I also do yoga or DDR when I feel like it, but not regularly like I should. I try to remember that even if I'm growing bigger in front, this walking is keeping my backside its normal size (more or less) and that I'm "training" for labor and birth. GL!

  • my toddler.

We got for walks every morning and almost every evening after dinner with DH.  I take him to the park and that's exercise enough for me!

  • I either take the dogs for a walk or go swimming at the gym - it is hit or miss depending on the week.....some days Im beat and am just lucky I dont fall asleep at my desk!

More power to ya for sticking to it tho.....I think my motivation to hit the gym everyday left with my hormone balance!

  • ....ummm....exercise? What is that?  Confused

  • My body is really heavy and sore these days, so I've switched to swimming.   DH is training for a triathlon right now, so it makes me feel guilty to sit on the couch when he's heading to the pool.  Plus, it is such an amazing feeling once I get into the water.  No gravity = instant relief!

  • I agree with one of the PP....what is exercise? I don't know that word anymore.  My bladder gets in the way of exercise :-)  I do walk with my dog usually 20 to 40 minutes 3 days/week (it's a brisk walk with a husky) but it's been raining a lot so I've been cutting back on that.  My job requires a lot of walking and squatting down..does that count?  I was not able to keep up any gym routine due to DH's unpredictable schedule and now it is just too hard to get back into cardio with the extra weight since I didn't keep it up the whole time.  Oh well..I'll just be super sore for months after LO arrives!

  • Some days I really don't feel like going, so I don't make myself. But, when I am feeling good, I make sure I get out of the house before I change my mind.

I have prenatal aquatics once a week (last class tonight).

Then I go to the gym about 3-4 days.  My normal routine is the elliptical for 20 minutes, weights, then I walk on the treadmill for 10 minutes.  I break up the cardio now because I have gotten a lot slower this far along in my pregnancy.  :)

  • I walk every morning and at this point that (along with a 15 minute dumbbell arm exercise) is all I'm guaranteed to do regularly. But I feel good- I walk anywhere from 2-5 miles which is more than I did in my 3rd tri with DS.

Sometimes I'll do Prenatal Fitness Fix but that tends to hurt my pelvis. Haven't been to the gym in a while..

  • I try to go to the gym 5-6 times a week and do weights and the elliptical machine.  I also walk if I get a chance (mostly on breaks at work).  My motivation is not wanting to have things be so difficult when I give birth, and also getting back in shape after LO is born.  Sometimes if I am worried I won't want to head to the gym I will bring my gym clothes to change into after work.  This seems to help.
