3rd Trimester

You all might appreciate my daily struggles to enjoy Rome

So, I'm on my last business trip before my maternity leave starts and it happens to be 10 days in Rome.

I am trying to enjoy it - I've never been to Rome before - but it's hot (about 90 degrees and I normally live in a town that doesn't get much hotter than 70).  The state of public bathrooms is horrible - no toilet seats so I have to do that squat thing and hope I don't lose my balance.  Lots of cobblestones and uneven pavement so I have to be careful to not fall into a hole and twist my ankle.  And I have to run out in front of cars/busses/scooters to cross the street!

I'm not complaining though - the 10 scoops of gelato I have on a daily basis more than make up for the inconveniences of traveling to Rome during peak tourist season!!

  • I love Rome!!  I've been there three times but I can't imagine dealing with that city while pregnant.  The gelato would certainly help though!

  • mmmm Gelato! I couldn't eat ice cream here in the states for A LONG TIME after my trip to Italy about 10 years ago. Even the good places in the states that make gelato don't even compare to Italy. Have a scoop of strawberry for me please!

  • ^^ Strawberry gelato is like a gift from heaven!  It's so wonderful.  It's my favorite right now too! :)

Thanks for the encouragement ladies - I'll eat a little extra gelato today for the bump ladies!

  • I adore Rome, but I completely understand about the weather!  DH and I were there for 10 days last May and the humidity did it's best to destroy me on a daily basis.  I ended up buying a cheesy souvenir fan and carried it around with me everywhere and fanned myself pretty much all day.
  • Ohhhh, I miss Rome! I went during the hot July month and I can't imagine going there pregnant. I almost passed out climbing the dome at St. Peter's on an empty stomach, but it was so worth it!!!  Gelato is awesome, but those pizza counters beat all! So authentically Rome. Yummmmm. At night, please spend some time at the Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain or Spanish Steps - the illumination is breathtaking.

Word of advice - take the bus or a taxi to get around!!! Don't walk!

If you love cats, go to the cat sanctuary at Largo (Teatro) Argentina. It's awesome seeing cats lounging around ancient ruins!
