s/o: Breech vaginal TWIN birth!

My friend/acquaintance who just had surprise twins due to declining ultrasounds throughout her pregnancy actually delivered the second twin as a vaginal footling breech. I've heard a partial birth story and it seems that while the first baby was a typical birth, the second baby had to be pulled/yanked out feet first! Good thing she had a midwife who had previous experience with vaginal twin births and vaginal breech deliveries...

  • Holy crap!  I'm assuming babies and momma are okay. Can you imagine the story that midwife is going to have to pass around?  Wowza.  Congrats to all of them for what I only imagine was an incredible birth!
  • Did she have an epi?  I can't imagine how incredibly painful that must be!

  • No epi because it was a homebirth.

And she declined ultrasounds. I haven't spoken to her yet to know exactly why she refused them, but I do know that in the natural birthing community that many people feel ultrasounds are not safe for the fetus.(I'm not one of those, FWIW. I did decline all other prenatal testing, but still had ultrasounds.)

She did, from what I understand, very relucatantly agree to an ultrasound at 38 weeks because the midwife thought she felt two bodies in there. Twins were confirmed and she had them naturally at right around 40 weeks.

  • I am a twin and that's how my mom delivered my brother and I.  My brother was born 1st and was head first, I was 2nd and was breech.  She also didn't know she was having twins as they didn't do ultrasounds back then.  She suspected but didn't know for sure.
