Diva Cup users, please help!!

Hi, I usually post of the 12-24 months, if at all, but I was told this may be a better spot for my questions.  I bought the diva cup last month, tried it a few times but was never successful at inserting it properly.  I am trying again this month and same problem, it never seems to pop open and I can't rotate it at all!  Are you inserting it with the curve of the "U" facing the floor or your head (sorry for the bad description!)  Any tips would be great, I am SO sick of the other options I just wnat to start using this.

 TIA

I insert it with the cup folded upwards, so the 'crease' is towards my toes.  If it doesn't pop open right away, I fiddle with it for a bit - tug gently, push gently, and try to manually pop it open.  I can always tell when it's open all the way.

If the C-fold doesn't work for you when inserting it, there are other folds you can try.  I can't seem to find the link, though.  If you google diva cup fold, I bet you'll come up with some helpful info.

GL!  Once you get the hang of it, I think you'll really like it.

  • hmm I might be folding mine different because I can't figure out the curve of the U at all... I just take half of mine and push it in/down so only the top ends up smaller. then I insert so that the part that the side that was not folded/pushed is towards my back and the opening is towards the front. Then once that is inside I let go of holding it folded and it sort of pops open... Does that make any sense? If it gets proper suction/a seal you will feel it when it pops open. If not  I try again.
  • Don't give up! I swear the Diva Cup has a 3 month learning curve and then it's marvelous. I had to use a couple of tampons this last cycle b/c AF started when I didn't have my diva cup with me and man--I couldn't believe how much tampons suck in comparison (It'd been so long since I'd used tampons).

What I do is insert the cup, then pull it out slightly (not all the way, but maybe half-way), then I rotate it a little until it pops open, then I reinsert all the way.

Also, play around with the different fold techniques until you find the one that works best for you. GL!

  • There is indeed a Diva learning curve. For me it took 2 or 3 cycles to not have blow outs. (The cup wasn't opening fully and I should've known this since it wasn't spinning as the instructions say, but I didn't belive it could actually spin.) This site helped me figure out how to fold it differently so it woudl fully open: https://sew-in-love.com/menstrual-cups.html (I use the punch down fold). TMI alert- Also, you could try some lube on it. I like to use it on the first day of AF since things aren't too slippery yet.

The curve of the U must be facing towards your rectum, not exactly towards the floor. ?
  • Try a gentle kegel while inserting.
  • Thanks ladies, I will try these tips out.  I will not give up because tampons and pads are TERRIBLE!!
