While living in NYC, I know that some of the nanny services required that a background check be available for parents to check (you paid the service and then they ran a bkgrnd. check for you).
I worked at a private preschool in NYC and all employees had to have the following done in order to work there:
-Fingerprinting (checks your background)
-All certifications (copies of)--First Aid cert., CPR cert., etc.
-At least 3 references whom they could contact themselves about the employeee
-Resume (including all childcare related degrees, former positions, volunteer work, etc. that pertained to children)
Sorry that doesn't directly answer your initial Q but thought it might be helfpful in case you want to check for these things as well when you interview. GL!!
We are looking for a nanny. We were both nervous about not using an agency because we couldn't figure out how to do background checks on someone that we found on our own. So that is why we decided to go with an agency. I would love to hear people who did do it on their own, what they did. The agency we are going with does a criminal check, social security (to check for any aliases), dmv, and sex offender.
