Could you give me some tips on a rag quilt?
I have all my squares cut and ready. I made one so far, and it is in the wash to get the rag on. But I am not sure I did it right...
Top layer is cotton, middle and back is flannel. I sewed diagonally across the stack (and the other way too, so it made an "x") and then assembled row by row.
The thing is when I assemled all the rows together then the flaps to snip were sewn down at the top and bottom of each square. Is that right?
Re: Tami
It sounds like you did the layer right! I usually do a back layer of flannel a middle layer of batting and then the cotton on top, but yours will for sure work! I sew the little packet of the 3 fabrics with the X in the middle, but dont tend to be too picky about going all the way to the ends since you are going to sew it again.
When I sew the Xed fabric together I sew them with about an inch seam allowence...this is what you are going to clip. Make sure to sew it so when the cotton is up that the clipping is on top and not bottom. It sounds like you might have sewn it with half up half down? The only way I remember to do this is by reminding myself that the pretty fabric needs to be on the outside when I sew....not face to face.
Once the whole blanket is sewed I then clip it and wash it....otherwise its seems harder to sew if you clip and wash first.
I attached a photo of one in the middle of production....pre clipping. HAHA
