Poll for those of you with 2 or more kiddos.

Do you currently use Daycare, in home care, or nanny?

Did you change from one form of care to another when you had #2?

We currently have daycare, and may go to nanny with #2.

  • #2 isn't here yet! But #1 is in a home daycare and #2 will be as well. Although, they will be switching to a new home daycare.

  • we are using the same daycare center as we do for DD.  I have debated this over a million times and the pros all come out in favor of the center (even though its more than 2 times our monthy mortgage!)

Daycare center for both - they are twins.
  • I have onsite childcare at my work.  It is fairly expensive ($195/week) but it is priceless having them so close, going over to visit whenever, and running into them around campus on walks.
We will have them both there.
  • Daycare center - both kids will go there (DD is only months - she starts there at 4 months).
  • we don't have two yet but we are planning on having both in a daycare center.  we considered switching to a nanny with two but our oldest is very shy and we think being in a classroom environment has been really good for her.  plus, now that we know the teachers we are even more comfortable to take #2 there.

this will be something we reconsider every 6 months or so.  we had a tough first year with sickness in daycare and it also depends on what baby #2's temperment is like.  but for now, daycare is the plan.

  • We have had a nanny up until this point.  I'm a teacher and am off in the summers and this fall, my twins will start daycare.
  • When I went back to work after my twins were born we had an au pair.  When the boys were 15 months old we transitioned to an in-home day care.  When #3 came along they were all going to the day care for a few weeks then we switched to a nanny.

I found getting two out the door in the morning was totally doable.  Three, however, was a real challenge for me.  We are all so much happier now that mama is the only one who needs to get dressed and out the door in the morning!

  • I'm struggling with this too... part of me wants to get a nanny so I can actually work instead of taking time off for 2 sick kids.   It was a nightmare how much my daughter got sick that first year then I got sick, and then my husband.  I can't imagine adding another to that mess. :(
  • We stayed with daycare/preschool, as we think it is important for our kids to get the social interaction, especially with our ds who has mild autism and struggles a little in that area.
  • And I forgot to mention they are at my work center, which is two blocks from where I work (university). I could drive over there in 2 minutes.
  • Currently have a nanny.

Yes, we changed from having #1 in a licensed DC center to having a nanny when I returned to work after #2.

    Daycare center/preschool

Did you change from one form of care to another when you had #2?

Our kids were in an in home DC until #2 was 1 y/o.  We moved them to a daycare center/preschool b/c their DCP moved out of state.  It ended up being wonderful.  They're in a great preschool now, it's close to home and I'm actually paying less than I was for daycare alone.  Much less than I would have been paying with sending my #1 to preschool PT this year, as well.  And, he goes to preschool FT.

  • Daycare center for both, we have been with the same daycare since my 3 yar old started at 12 weeks and we love it.  yes, they get sick but  they will get sick whereever they are.  I trust the care, love the staff - why would I switch?
    Jenni Mom to DD#1 - 6-16-06 DD#2 - 3-13-08
  • I take my kids to in home care and they love it because it is just like their second home but they also have other kids to interact with, but I have to say, the lady that commented above about having a nanny and only needing to get herself ready in the morning sounds heavenly!  It is also a struggle for sick days when you can't take them out of the house for care.
