I have a couple questions. ?I posted this on the Eco-Family board too, but I thought I'd see what my hometown girlies had to say.?

1. ?Should we undo the snaps on the diaper (and later on the bigger insert) to wash and dry them?

2. Later when using the larger insert does it make a difference which side the folded over part ends up in? ?LIke - does it offer more?absorbency?if it's up front vs. in the back? ?Seems like maybe it would for a boy, but we're having a girl. ?So does it matter??

Muchas gracias!! ?Big Smile?

  • I never bothered undoing the snaps on the rise of the diaper, but I always unsnapped  the insert. It helps with drying time. I always stuffed the snapped side to the back of the diaper, since she was sleeping on her back and it all flowed that way anyways.

Just so you know - Ella was 6lbs 4 oz at birth and didn't fit in the bg's until she was a little over 8lbs.

  • Butting in with an ignorant/uninformed question as I'm weighing my options right now.  What do you do with the soiled diapers when you're mobile?
  • We never unsnapped.  Once we had the snaps set, they stayed that way until she grew to the next size.  We also don't unsnap the inserts - just toss them in the dryer.  We wash and dry with fitteds and they dry faster than those.  I think i usually put the folded over side toward the front but just because it was easier to stuff it that way; I never tested the insert placement for performance.

Nykola: we have medium wetbags (one for each of our diaper bags) that we use for the dirtys.  You can use really anything waterproof - a ziploc bag would be fine as well.

  • I never undo the snaps on the actual diaper, but always undo the snap on the insert. Fyi, we've always used the thicker insert. I believe the thinner one is for extra absorption if needed. I've always stuffed diapers with the folded part towards the front, fold down. No reason to my madness though. Like Pink said the BG's didn't fit her until 8-ish pounds.

I think we finally got Isabelle's diaper rash under control so we should be back to full-time cloth soon! You'll love em!

I just have a ziplock bag in the diaper bag, but half the time, I just wrap the diaper up and toss it in the bag. They aren't usually very icky, or dripping wet.

The smaller one is the newborn insert and we used just that one for quite awhile. One of the things I love about cloth/bg's is that you can adjust the diaper to fit your kiddo's wetness needs (just the small insert? the big one? both?).

In the beginning we used just regular prefolds and now, I can stuff them into the diaper for extra absorbancy if I feel like she needs it. It makes for one huge diaper butt, but it is a cute diaper butt. :)

Also note, that pants/shorts are often too small in the rise to fit over the cloth diapers - so sometimes you have to go a size larger with those.

Well, there you have it. I've only used them for extra at night. Way to pay attention, J! :)

And yes, most of DD's pants and shorts are a size bigger to accommodate her J-ho booty. Since we've been doing disposables the last couple weeks they are all loose and saggy.
