  • these stories are crazy. Sometimes I just don't know how they don't know. But after listening, sometimes people come up with reasons that are legit.

  • I think they have ZERO insight into their body.  How could you not suspect it?
  • what's even crazier, is that DH has patients like this on a regular basis. Come in with "abdominal pain" and leave with a baby.

  • It's denial or total absence from reality.  That's all I'm sayin.  By any other accounts, there is NO FREAKING WAY.  I'm sorry.
  • Yeah, I think it's really got to be some sort of really crazy denial.

Especially when it's a teenager, I think that they can somehow block it from their minds and hope that it's not really happening...

How can you not get any sort of baby bump at all????   I saw something on Good Morning America or something and they had this woman who said she was 110 pre-prgnancy and had gained 5 or 10 pounds, but didn't know.   NO WAY.  There's nowhere to hide a whole baby in a 110-pound frame.

I am plus-sized, and even I end up looking pregnant at the end.  I could see a very overweight person not knowing til late in the game maybe.  But you'd have to be really out of touch with your body and have NO morning sickness.  I dont' look pregnant right now, but I can tell my stomach is bigger, and if I lay on my stomach I feel a hard ball in there so I can't sleep taht way anymore.  And I've felt like HELL for months and then there's the whole "no period" deal.  And sore boobs.  How do people end up with NONE of that?

Maybe I'll hvve to see if that show is on again sometime.

  • Yeah, I don't know... I never had any morning sickness, but I have super-regular periods, so I definitely would've known if I skipped one... but I have a friend who has PCOS and she only gets her period 3-4 times a year, and it's really?erratic?- she never knows when to expect it. And a coworker of mine once told me she doesn't even get a period. Some stories I've heard are about women who have really, really irregular cycles like this. Others have chronic GI problems, so they chalk symptoms up to that. And still others are obese. But the chances of your being MANY of these things and still not feeling any movement or having any signs whatsoever...??? I agree w/the PP that these women are not in touch with their bodies. For whatever reason, (lack of education, fear of the doctor, complete oblivion, etc.) their minds are not going there.?

I can't watch shows like that...?

  • I totally understand erratic cycles and all that.  I know people who go nearly a year with no period because their system is so out of whack. So I can imagine it would be tough to detect a pregnancy.  I can also understand being overweight and not being able to "see" visible signs.  Heck, I had zero morning sickness so and didn't feel "truly" pregnant until around the 5th month when i could see a protruding belly.  But to go 10 MONTHS and not know you're pregnant until a baby comes out? That's a new level of crazy. You have to be out of touch with your body and life in general.  Or just in denial.  We women can do some mega self-convincing when we're in denial.

Pregnancy is not a gentleman. It can be rude and in your face.  I have a hard time believing a woman could miss ALL the signs however faint they may be for 10 whole months without having some serious issues with her body and her self. These are not "normal" "healthy" (physically and mentally) women on this show.  They can't possibly be. I refuse to believe it! LOL

  • I hope no one's going 10 months!!  :)

But yeah, I can understand no noticing the period if you have erratic cycles.  Or not having morning sickness, etc... but how you could have ALL of those as a good explanation for not noticing you're pregnant... just seems weird!

Don't we all go 10 months?  A full term pregnancy is 10 months and there are people on that show who don't know they're pregnant until they go into labor!  At some point in 40 weeks, ya gotta know something.  God bless those women though. Whatever their reasons, that's gotta be a shocker when it happens!
  • Yeah, 40 weeks is actually between 9 and 10 months, according to my pg book. I think at one time during my pg w/DD, I did the math and found that to be correct, but... my brain's too fuzzy to feel like doing it now. :p
  • I actually know a person that did not know that she was pregnant.  Now I think she was a little cuckoo in the head and so she might have suspected it but just was in denial.  I saw her 24 hours before she gave birth and she did not look PG.  So I know that can happen.  She was getting a little pudgy in the middle but was doing about 100 crunches a day, which is normal for her.

The person I felt terrible for was her boyfriend, my neighbor.  He went from a 20 year old college student to full time Dad over night.  He has stepped up to the plate and the kid is such a good child.  The mom is absent...

Don't we all go 10 months? ?A full term pregnancy is 10 months ....

But 40 weeks does not = 10 months. ?Since the first 2 weeks of pregnancy are before you ovulate, you're not PG until week 3. ?So you really only have 38 weeks of being PG, which is pretty much exactly 9 months. ?Actually, since I was charting I know that I got PG on Oct 16 and I'm due July 13. ?So, just shy of 9 months.

Back to topic though - I could *maybe* understand a scenario where the woman is overweight, has very irregular periods, spots or bleeds throughout pregnancy and has an anterior placenta (so she doesn't feel the baby moving much). ?But how many cases can all those things be true? ?Ultimately I think you guys are right - denial, denial, denial.?

    ?

  • Close enough to 10 months!!  It sure isn't 9 on the dot though...it's slightly longer medically.  The point I was making was that it's long enough to know!
