Did you do your childbirth classes at FMH? I was looking at the options and scheduling this morning and didn't see a specific class for breast feeding. I thought they would have offered one, or is this offered at another site? I know FMH has an office/building over on TJ Drive that is connected to Capital Care.

Thanks!

  • Megan,

Yes, I took a childbirth class through FMH just over two years ago.  I did it through FMH's Wellness Center at the FSK Mall.  I opted for the Double Day option (broken up between Saturday and Sunday).  I also took Comfort Measures Plus which is for women that are planning to do med-free births.  (I was not planning that, I only took the class as more of a refresher closer to my edd.  I took childbirth classes relatively early in my pregnancy due to scheduling.  If you are not considering a med-free birth AT ALL, I would not recommend this.  It made me nauseas all the people who believed that childbirth was a "piece of cake"!!)

Anyhow, the classes were at the FSK Mall at the Wellness Center.  It was nice because during breaks we could step into the mall for a few minutes to grab a snack or a drink.

As for breastfeeding classes, to the best of my knowledge the hospital doesn't have any specific class for it.  I remember asking them at the time, but honestly I forget where they told me to check.  I didn't end up having any special class or training on it, and managed for a little while.  Maybe call the Wellness Center or ask your OB for suggestions on where you might find more information.

Hope you find some of that helpful!  Can't believe you're already in your second trimester!!

  • Thanks for the information! I wonder if all of the classes are held at the Wellness Center at the FSK mall? Now that I think of it, I'm not even sure the wellness center is still there--they may have moved locations. Can't remember! I'm not 100% sure about what kind of birth I'd prefer, although honestly, I'm probably leaning more towards one with some med assistance :) We were planning on scheduling now for closer to week 28-30, which my doctor said was a good idea since the classes fill up really early. I think we're going to do it in two Sunday sessions...the week sessions are just hard. I'm exhausted after teaching all day! I'll have to ask about the breast feeding classes and see what they say. Also, do you remember being able to register online? It's so hard for me to call during the day at school during business hours--I'm an online type of person but didn't see it!

We're 15 weeks today--the time is flying by! We should find out the sex the week of July 12 or thereabouts, can't wait! We're really struggling on boy names, so I'm anxious to know what we're having to give us some more focus. On the other hand, I found boy bedding that I love but no girl bedding yet...and my gut says girl. We'll see :) We had just painted before we found out and we love the color...and DH would love me if I didn't make him repaint!

     How are you feeling?
