If you plan to have a three children, what's your plan?

If you already have two, when will you TTC #3?  Or, if you have one, how long do you plan to wait after #2 to try for #3?

Re: If you plan to have a three children, what's your plan?

  • We were due with our #3 in August but m/c'd in Jan (as I think you know).  So, now we're hoping ANY DAY now to get pg with #3.  Our first 2 are 21 months apart and now #2 and #3 are going to be at least 3+ yrs apart :(

  • We haven't decided for sure, but we both really would like to have at least one more.  We aren't really planners when it comes to stuff like this, more of the "we'll see when we get there" type, but where I stand now is that I think a 3 year gap is going to be great for our family with this baby, and I wouldn't mind shooting for that with a third child.

We've also discussed waiting 6-8 years and then having two more.  That's kind of how my family is, and I think it is a great situation as well.  We'll see, I guess!

  • #2 is due in a few weeks, so our first two will be just under two years apart.  We'll probably TTC #3 when #2 is around 2, but it depends because we're not TTC #3 until DH finishes his PhD or at least has a graduation date  set and a post-doc lined up.

  • I only have one so far, but I do want three, preferably with no less than 3-4 years b/w each.   I'm not a slave to that time frame by any means, but definitely leaning towards it.
  • I want a third, but DH isn't as convinced.  He originally wanted 4, but has backed down to 2.  IDK - part on me wants to wait until #1 is in school, so we can minimize daycare costs, but I really love this 2 year age difference.  We have not closed any doors, but have not made any decisions yet either.

  • we will start trying next may/june for #3.  I just finished (yesterday) nursing #2 and i have to have babies in march/april/may due to my leave time from work. :)

i can't wait to start tyring.  i am tempted to start now.  but we can't have three in daycare for more than one year!

  • We've always wanted a 3rd,we said we would try for #3 when DD is around 2 t. To be honest, ?I'm considering just having the 2, since we have one of each. But we did have an oops moment a few days ago, I'm really hoping it does not lead to anything. Dh is refusing to have a vasectomy now.
  • We would like to have #3 when DD starts kindergarten, so 3-4 years from now. So theoretically, their ages would be 6, 4,1, something like that. Ditto the PP about daycare - only I wouldn't even go a year! We could not afford 3 children in daycare. Whoa nelly.
  • I *think* we are going to start this cycle.  DH has been on the fence about #3 for a while.  My first is 4.5 years and our youngest just turned 3.  I would have liked to do this sooner since we are in our mid 30's.

  • We're shooting for (sorry, not the best analogy) 3 all 3yrs apart. We are TTC #2 in August.
  • Josey's -- we are pondering the same thing -- one more fairly soon (2-3 years after #2) or waiting awhile and having two more fairy close together.  We're also considering foster care/adoption.

We don't really have a plan.  H has informed me that I'm not to bring up my baby fever/any discussion of a #3 until Andersen is at least one.  However, our BC method isn't exactly fool-proof, so we'll see what happens (we definitely aren't trying, but wouldn't be devastated by #3 coming earlier than we had hoped).

Once we're in new house with more space, we'll probably explore foster parenting a bit further and go from there.

  • We will most likely try next spring for #3. I want to be done with the new baby stuff (constant nursing, fussiness, etc) before Evan is too old to do stuff the little ones want to do. I guess I'm thinking mostly of the future with trips and such. I think I'd try now just to git 'er done! I definitely want another one but I'm not crazy about the newborn/infant time period and the sooner I'm done with that (short!) part, the better.

  • We are planning to have them all about 3-3.5 yrs apart.  We are still young, so it works out for us.  I know that DH's parents had 2 under 2, then waited like 5yrs & had 2 under 2 again.  I think that would work out well too.

  • Mine are 27.5mo & 29mo apart...but it wasn't exactly planned & we will likely have 1 more at some point...just adding my 2 cents.  I like the 2ish years apart but that first year is pretty rough.

  • Our plan is to start trying for #3 in one year.  So, hopefully my 2nd and 3rd will be 2.5 years apart and I will have my third before or shortly after I turn 35.  I will try for one year (I use a specialist) and if we are not pregnant then we will be done with 2 :-(.  Hopefully that won't happen!

  • Ditto MollynPatrick.  I'll have 20 months between #1 & 2 and 16 months between #2 & 3.  I'm due 8/10 and DS will turn 3 on 8/1 and DD will be 16 months.  I was really hoping to be due in October so 2 & 3 would be 2 years apart in school but it is what it is.  I also turn 30 on 8/8 so the younger we are, the better in our opinion.

I like having them less than 2 years apart.  I am so over highchairs, car seats, etc. and am not in love with the newborn stage.  We are already planning our first trip to Disney so that we do not have to take kids that need naps, diapers, won't remember the trip, etc.
