Evergreen Hospital vs. UW?

I found out my Dr. only delivers at UW.  She's family practice w/ obstetrics (not an OB/Gyn) and while she's nice, I'm not tied to her.  I figure it's a low chance that she actually delivers anyway and so I should just pick based on the hospital.

I'm thinking I'd rather go to Evergreen.  I've done both tours and like it better.  On top of that it is much, much closer for me.

Any feedback on Evergreen (good, bad, indifferent?).  Also, any good Ob/gyn's you'd refer me to?  Thanks!

Re: Evergreen Hospital vs. UW?

  • I really liked my OB at Evergreen Women's Care, Dr. Shaunie Keys.   She's very personable yet professional and she doesn't make you feel like just another ## patient like other OBs I've had.  I really liked her nurses and staff, the whole clinic was great.  Good luck!

  • I'd do Evergreen just for the lack of residents.  I saw a perinatologist at UW but chose to deliver at Overlake.
  • I live 5 mins from UW and chose to deliver at Evergreen. A bunch of residents and students watching, rotating and "helping" - no thanks. It took us an hour to get to the hospital when I went into labor w/ DS and sat right by UW in traffic and still happy we went to Evergeen. I just really think they are all about babies and moms at Evergreen in so many ways. I go to the Center for Women's Health at Evergreen.

  • I LOVE Evergreen so far...same practice as sunmountain.  Re: UW out of curiosity, can you decline having residents or students watching or is sort of what comes with the territory of delivering there?  I'm just wondering...

  • I delivered both of my kids at Evergreen.  I had a awesome experience with Gavin's birth (vbac, DD was a c-setion).  I also went to the Center of Women's health and used their midwives.  They were awesome!  Evergreen is nationally recognized for their maternity care, especially lactation.

  • I think you should pick your doctor, not the hospital.  Youll be at the hospital for maybe 2 days.  Youll be with your OB for 9 months.

that said, I really had a great experience at Evergreen.

  • I LOVE Evergreen and have had 3 children there.  I don't have any experience with UW though and haven't heard much about deliveries there period.  I've been very happy with the Center for Women's Health at Evergreen.  I delivered my first child with the midwives in the practice and my twins with Dr. Wells (OB in the same practice). I started with the midwives this time too but transitioned to the OB when I developed too many complications.  I recommend them!

  • Thanks ladies!  I have an appointment with the Center for Women's Health--I'm glad to get so many good votes of confidence!
