Naptime insanity.

Let me preface this by saying that today has been a really rough day, so I'm pretty low on patience as it is.

Leading up to Henry's first birthday he was down to taking just one nap at about 10:30 or 11.   Within the last week or so, he's been rubbing his eyes and tired at 9.  (He wakes up about 6:45, fyi.)  So I've been putting him down at 9 when he gets tired, and he usually sleeps between 2-3 hours.

But then by 2 or 3 he's exhausted again and rubbing his eyes.  Problem is, he won't go down for another nap, despite being visibly tired.  Right now he's upstairs in his crib crying away (although he's calming down).

I don't know what I'm supposed to do?  It seems really counter-intuitive to not put him down when he's tired, but 9am seems too early for just one nap, but then the second nap doesn't happen.

Any advice?

Re: Naptime insanity.

  • Ah yes this is familiar - what I've been doing is pushing the morning nap back and back - now he goes down after lunch and will sleep for 2 hours.  Have you tried keeping him awake a little longer each day - I did it by getting out of the house - he won't sleep when there are things he could be looking at.

Good luck - having a tired cranky baby in the afternoon and evening is not fun at all.

  • I responded on LJ... I woudl try putting him down for nap number 2 before he's exhausted and rubbing his eyes. I would try for 2 hours after he wakes up from nap 1.
