Babies: 9 - 12 Months

DD not holding bottle ?

Ok usually for all of her feedings I have been holding her bottle.  There are a few times that I will have her hold it like if she is just getting a bottle and no solid with her bottle and she is in her stroller.  She WILL hold it then if I recline her a bit back.  But if I am holding it she does not do it.  I literally would have to put her hands out to motion to her to hold the bottle and she will for a little while. But most of the time she won't   She's 10m...this is so silly but should I be concerned about this? Please no flames...I don't mind doing it but I am just wondering if this is a milestone she should have accomplished a long time ago.

Oh and if I do give her the sippy cup she will hold it but does not know how to puther head back to drink it unless I recline her.  She's ok with the sippy cup.  It has handles.

Do they sell universal handles that I can attach to the bottle?  Maybe then she will hold it?

Re: DD not holding bottle ?

  • we found ashlyn was tricking us around 9 1/2 months

she KNEW how to hold the bottle but preferred to be snuggled and have us how to do it

We started putting her in her crib and handing her her bottle for 1 bottle a day, she would drink it herself

That led her to holding her bottle while we fed her

which led us to switching to sippy cups last week- started in the crib and now we will hold her or just let her have it and she takes it wherever she finds a good spot to drink it

*sigh* I was SOOO sad to see the bottles go, but then again DH has always washed all the bottles every day and I do babies laundry (thats our tradeoff) so I am sure he was thrilled

  • our ds would hold on at about 4 mos. but now he is not interested, but he is mostly bf so i put it down to lack of practice. we did buy a handle thing to hopefully get him ready for using cups etc. any baby shop should have them.

  • DD refuses to hold her own bottle. ?When she eats, she likes to play with her hair and/or cover her eyes with her hands. ?I know she can do it though, I saw her actually take the bottle and put it to her mouth. ?I like the handle idea.

  • DS can hold the bottle, but doesn't want to.  As for the handles- I know that the handles on the Avent sippy cups are a separate piece and can be used on the Avent bottles.  I don't know if this works for other bottles
