TTC After a Loss

I don't usually post here

Hi ladies,

I normally post on BOTB, but they suggested I try this question over here.  Here is my post:

The first time I begame pregnant, I called the doctor's office and made an appointment for my first ultrasound (which would have been approx. 6 weeks).  Around 5 1/2 weeks, I began bleeding and called the doctor.  She gave me some instructions and we decided to keep my same appointment for the following week.  I miscarried over that weekend, had my ultrasound and everything was lost naturally.

It's been over two years now.  I am now wondering what to do if I get pregnant again.  When is the earliest I should request a pregnancy confirmation at the doctor's office and what else should I ask them to do?  Would it be wise to ask for my progesterone to be checked?

Last time she didn't do any testing because there weren't any complications or anything that looked abnormal.  I do have my annual visit this July, but in the event I become PG before then, I just want to take the right steps.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks :)

  • I would say 6 weeks is the earliest you should have an u/s. I had one at 5 and it was really just a waste of time.

You can ask that your Dr. check your HCG and progesterone levels.

I would just call when you get your BFP and tell them about your past M/C and see what they say. GL!

  • My OB said nothing different when I get pg again.  I am going to wait for 6.5 or 7 weeks for my first ultrasound so that I definitely would see a heartbeat if there were one, just so I don't have to play the "is it too early or is it another m/c" waiting game.  Some will send early betas to reassure you that things are progressing normally for your peace of mind, but there's nothing you can do about them anyway.  You should ask your OB about whether checking progesterone would be recommended based on your individual history.
