Babies: 9 - 12 Months

ferber and regression?

Hi All,

We finally caved and did ferber with our 6month old last weekend.  He did really well and by the fourth day, he was sleeping so soundly and continued it through the most of the week.  He was going down easily and sleeping almost 12 hours by himself!

That last for maybe 5-6 days and now tonight, I felt like I just started over again at day one.  He just cried for about a half hour and was so upset, it breaks my heart.

Has anyone experienced this?  He is kind of trying to figure out crawling -- when I go into his room tell him its okay, he is on his knees and hands.  Could this be the reason, I know milestones can really throw them.

TIA!

Re: ferber and regression?

  • Yes, milestones, teething, illness, food, just about everything, will throw them for a loop every now and then.  Smile

  • we went though this too and I just stuck with the plan and we made it through.  I know it can be tough!  Good Luck!

  • Thanks for the notes, I just needed to hear that others also went through this.

I just keep telling myself that if he did it once, he can do it again.  And that if stop it now, it makes all that crying for nothing -- just keep going and he will get it!

  • has he been getting his naps?  if not, he may be overtired and just may have a tough time going to sleep at night because he wants to stay up and play...

I always found that when my daughter has not gotten the correct amount of sleep in a day that she is soooo hard to put down at night!

  • naps are kind of a bad word around here!

He is at day care and usually takes a pretty good morning nap - 1 1/2 hour and then his afternoon is really short, like maybe 30 minutes.

but the good news is that I am finished working this week and am becoming a sahm (YEAH!!!).  with me at home, we are starting sleep/schedule boot camp.

when he is at home with me, he takes a good morning nap then too, but its harder to get him down in the afternoon.
