NBR: just came into work to get laid off

So I have known for the past few weeks that I was probably going to get laid off.  Today as I walked out of the door for work I get an email stating that they are laying off X amount of people today.  I just talked to my local boss and he told me that they are laying me off today. So now what I am suppose to do?  Just sit here and wait for my other boss to call me and let me go?  This is just weird.

  • I'm sorry - that sucks. yes, stick around and wait for your boss to come talk to you. He/she will have all the information you need regarding a package (if any)/benefits/etc.

    GL to you.

  • Aww...I'm sorry! I would call your boss and ask...no need to wait around for him if they're letting you go.
  • i would pack up your desk, and get all personal files and anything else you might need off your computer in case they walk you out.  clear your browser history, temp files, cookies, etc...

  • I am planning on sticking around until I get the call.  I am suppose to get some sort of severance package.  Heck we have already paid for DCP for the next two weeks so why not use the service.  I am just going to hang out on the internet all day.
  • I'm sorry, that sucks.  I would ask the local boss what to do.  Wait for your separation documents or what?

    this, especially the bolded stuff!

  • I'm sorry.  Get everything together so you can get out the door as soon as you get the details.  Maybe you can grab a drink with coworkers later to commiserate.

    Hang in there.

  • Sorry to hear the bad news. Sounds like you're handling it well.

I agree w/ pp's: get your stuff boxed up and cleaned out so you can jet once it's all said and done.

    Gotta love the MI economy.

  • I have been slowing cleaning since I knew I was going to get laid off or have to move.  The only thing I have to grab is my name tag outside of my door, it has some personal things about me so I want to keep it.  My computer is cleaned up the best I can.  I am going to clear the history again.
