Any bf mom's introduce sippy early b/c of bottle refusal?

I'm going back to work tomorrow and my wonderfully stubborn son has decided to stop taking bottle out of protest. We've tried everything. Out of desperation My dh got him to drink a few Oz out of a sippy today. Is this a big mistake? For some reason it just feels wrong, am I messing him up developmentally by giving him sippy early. I'm flattered he loves the boob so much but don't want him to starve.

  • No problem! Your use of "zippy" made me laugh!
  • I did around 4/5m.  I'd have to say that he's just NOW starting to REALLY drink from it.  He would drink before, but just take a few sips and be done with it. Now he can hold it & drink from it, but he still can't tip it up.  The most he's ever taken is 3.5oz.  Good luck, I can relate, bottle refusal stinks Sad

  • LOL I fixed zippy :)! Thanks ladies. I figure even if he takes 3 oz that's better than zero from bottle. I guess I never expected he'd start showing me whose boss so early LOL

  • I have had the same problem with bottle refusal...it started when she was 10 weeks old and she has never taken a bottle since...strangest thing and we worked and worked on it.  So, I started with all sorts of sippy cups around 5/6 months ....my Ped suggested it.  She takes drinks from it but not very much...it doesn't hurt to try!  Good luck!
  • Me.  We tried everything also.  I found a nuby sippy cup that said for 4mos and up.  Started using it at about 5mos.  At first it would just all come back out.  But she started getting the hang of it more.  If she's hungry she can suck it all right down now.  I also started giving her a little cereal so if I do leave her my dh or mil can feed her cereal and sippy cup and I know she'll be okay.  It's funny how bottles make her furious but she likes the sippy cup.
